Milan football team prepares to begin season on the road

The Milan Football team has been practicing twice a day since Monday, August 1. About thirty-five guys have been attending practice, twelve of which are seniors. During practice the seniors wear white practice jerseys that say "Depend on Me," distinguishing them from the underclassmen's black jerseys . Seniors on the team include:

Nick Arthur, #32, was a starter last year, and will play tail back and safety.

Shane McCormick, #55, was a starter last year, and will play guard and outside linebacker.

David McIntosh, #88, will play wide receiver and defensive end.

Brad McKeown, #87, will play receiver and defensive tackle.

Matt McKeown will play offensive tackle and defensive end.

Ryan McKittrick, #50, was a starter last year, and will play guard and defensive tackle.

Derek Pennington, #42, was a starter last year, and will play tight end and outside linebacker.

Kyle Schornick, #61, was a starter last year, and will play tackle and defensive end.

Bob Stanley, #33, was a starter last year, and will play full back and middle linebacker.

Jake Street, #72, will play defensive tackle.

Ryan Teer, #66, will play offensive tackle.

Luke Wall, #77, was a starter last year, and will play center.

Milan will begin their season by taking on Lawrenceburg in a scrimmage game on Friday, August 12 at 6:00pm, and their first game will be at North Putnam on Friday, August 19 at 7:30pm.

Fifth Annual Bulldog Chase 5K Run & Walk

The 5th annual Bulldog Chase 5K run and walk will be held on Saturday, August 13 starting at 8:00am (slow time). The race starts and finishes at Batesville Middle School.

Pre-registration forms must be postmarked by August 6. When registering early, $12 will pay for registration and a t-shirt, or $8 will buy registration only.

You can register on race day for $14 and get a t-shirt if they are available, or pay $10 for registration only.

Awards will be given to the top

three male and female runners overall, the top male and female master runners, and the top male and female walker.

There will also be a team competition. Teams should be organized with 3 to 5 runners, and the top three individual times will be added for a team total. The top male, female, and co-ed teams will receive awards. All team members are still eligible for individual awards. A team member must pick up a scoring card at the team sign-up table.

Categories for the 5K run are

13 & under, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70 & over. Categories in the 5K walk are 10 & under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 & over.

Kids can participate in a free fun run. Categories for the fun run will be 6 & under - 400m, 10 & under - mile run. A medal will be awarded to the top boy and girl, and ribbons will be given to all finishers.

All procedes from the event will go to the Batesville High School Cross Country Program.
