Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

This is an enlightening glance of the vast amount of hard work and effort high school Athletic Department Directors must perform to make and keep high school sports programs a quality activity for students, school staff, and the community in general.

A.D.D.'s are responsible for coordinating interscholastic athletic programs for their respective schools. The Jac-Cen-Del, Milan, and South Ripley A.D.D.'s have the responsibility of scheduling between 19 to 25 different school sports teams, and keeping each of them operating within stringent guidelines and directives established by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, (IHSAA).

A.D.D.'s are responsible for the scheduling of gyms, fields, tracks, pools, weight rooms, dressing rooms, locker/shower areas, etc., for the many sports teams which run simultaneously. They secure transportation as needed for travel to various sporting (AWAY) events, and arrange for custodial support and traffic coverage for the home events. They are responsible for contracting officiating coverage, timers, scorekeepers, starters, and any other personnel for events as necessary.

When inclement weather, such as snow, lightning, or an unforeseen occurrence alters planned schedules, they are responsible for the

rescheduling of events to stay in compliance with IHSAA rules.

Their further responsibilities include the purchasing of awards, trophies, certificates, ribbons, plaques, acknowledgments, sports letters, uniforms, and the keeping of school sports records.
