Developer asks Sunman Council for variance
Cathy May - Contributing Writer

Developer Bryan Metz told the Sunman Town Council at their September meeting that he has acquired 16 acres from Bob Brunsman. The acreage has 53 feet on Highway 101 and he wanted Council to grant a variance for the traditional 60 feet that is required for a driveway. The council advised him that he would have to have a deceleration lane for a business entrance. He was also advised to approach the property from his existing acreage on Industrial Drive where a deceleration lane would not be required. He agreed to investigate that possibility.

Larry Welter, manager of Raintree Apartments wanted to make sure that Darren Gunter would be returning to do additional seeding in the new drainage ditch. He was assured that Gunter would be back when the weather conditions were right.

Welter requested that sometime in the future a water valve could be put in at the end of East Washington Street. With the replacement of the valve, Raintree Apartments would be able to work on any water problem without turning anyone else's off. Carl Bruns, Utility Superintendent for Sunman, said that it is already on their list of things to do.

Concerning the Sunman-Dearborn Regional Sewer District, Council has agreed to file a petition with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to create the district. Roger Lang and Mike Wolff were appointed to the Sewer District Board.

In other business: The 2006 budget was finalized. The fall contribution of $1,000 was made to the Sunman Quality of Life Fund through the Ripley County Community Foundation.

Carl Bruns reported the televising of the sewers is about 65-70% complete and should be done the first of October. Bruns will turn on the water at the Couch property. They are aware of the sewer line problems.

The final payment for the Ford 550 has been made and the title is in Sunman's possession.

Marshal Mark Denny spent a few days in Louisiana, to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.

All three board members attended the meeting: Wayne Jenner, John Campbell and Mike Wolff. Also present to advise the board were Town Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer Kris Schneider. The next meeting of the Sunman Town Board will be October 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunman Town Hall.
