Young Eagles boys team collects the hardware and musters afirst boys and girls individual finish

The Ripley County Jr.-High Cross Country Meet was held on Thursday September 29 at Batesville with entries from Batesville, Jac-Cen-Del, Milan and South Ripley School.

Winning the girls team event was Batesville with 31 points, second place to JCD with 37 points , third with 70 points was South Ripley, and fourth with 98 points was Milan.

The boys team event was won by Jac-Cen-Del with 32 points, a tie of score at 44 points required judges to go to the sixth team finish for Batesville to top South Ripley getting the second place title by having a 16th place vs a Raider 17th place. South Ripley placed third and Milan was included in boys team competition.

Race finish times for the boyswere 10:31 to 14:57 and for the girls, 11:25 to 18:48. The girls event had 27 competitors and the boys 22.

Individually, Jac-Cen-Del won first place in the girls event with Samantha White posting a time of 11:25. In the boys run, JCD's Derek Lunsford crossed first in a time of 10:31.

South Ripley runners earned second place finishes in the boys race with Devan Swinney - 10:48, and for the girls , Jenifer Patrick - 11:37.

In the girls race, Batesville finished third, fourth sixth, eighth and tenth for the team victory. Finishing fifth and seventh were JCD runners Kayla Forbes - 12:30 and Brooke Gilland - 12:42. For JCD, 11th and 13th place were Becka Wagner - 12:57 and Kara Wagner - 13:03. Milan girls took the ninth and 12th spots with runners Tatijana Marsee - 12:47 and Vicky Woulms at 13:00. Raider girls with 14th and 15th place finishes were Kaitlyn Welch - 13:22 and Jessica Foster - 13:22.

In the boys race, JCD runners Brandon Wilhoit finished fourth in a time of 11:02, followed by Devon Shadday placing fifth at 11:08. Ethan Wagner finished in seventh at 11:18 and the 15th place finish by Zach Schuler at 11:52 locked the team win for the JCD boys. The 19th and 20th spots were taken by JCD by Brock Shadday in 12:21 and Zach Kappes at 12:57.

Raiders Zach Halcomb finished eighth at 11:23 and Zack Grossman finished ninth at 11:26. The 12th, 13th, and 17th spots were Raiders Jared Walters - 11:45, Andy Landis - 11:47, and Spencer Braley - 12:17

South Ripley Varsity Co-ed Cross Country Team runs at Greensburg Invitational

Thursday, September 29, South Ripley's Varsity Co-ed Cross Country Team participated along with nine other schools in competition at the Greensburg High School, finishing with a third place in boys team action and a ninth in the girls team point scoring.

The boys event hosted 68 runners with Terry Roell of Batesville finishing in first place with a time of 16:41.

Erik Demaree with 17:51 finished first for the Raiders and earned the 13th spot for the event with his efforts. Ariel Lawburgh of the Raiders finished with a time of 18:14 for an 18th overall finish. Jared Keck finished in 26th at 19:03. Andy Miller finished the race 31st in 19:24. B. J. Sieverding with a time of 19:31 finished in 32nd position. Ryan Kohlmeier ran the course in 19:38 for a 37th place finish. Jerry Coffin rounded out the raider runners with a 38th position finish in 19:59 keeping all the raider times under 20:00 in the boys meet..

Boys times ranged from 16:41 to 26:12.

The boys team finish and totals were: East Central 35, Batesville 57, South Ripley 120, South Dearborn 130, Greensburg 137, Hauser 153, Franklin County 198, Oldenburg Academy 201, South Decatur 214, and North Decatur with 224.

South Ripley Boys Cross Country Coach Sam Durham of their third place team finish ,"This was our best finish in several years."

The girls event team scores were Batesville 53, East Central 62, Oldenburg Academy 110, South Dearborn 111, Greensburg 116, North Decatur 136, Franklin County 179, Lawrenceburg 219, South Ripley 220, and Southwestern 225.

An individual run of 15:54 by Batesville's Amber Hountz earned the girls first place finish honors in a field of 66 ladies.

Melanie Berry of South Ripley was first to cross the finish line for the Raiders at 17:51 for 19th place. Jessilyn DeWitt in 34th at 18:49, Brittany DeWitt finished at 56th in 20:47, Ashley Benz - 58th at 20:51, and Amber Thompson - 60th at 21:29 rounded out the Lady Raider competitors in the girls race.

The girls finish times ranged from 15:54 to 26:05.
