Raiders have perfect season

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

On Wednesday October 5, the South Ripley Jr-High Co-ed Soccer Team made saw their hopes of keeping a perfect season record happen, with a final game score of 2-0 over the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles.

The Eagles only loss for the year had been to this Raider squad in a game played at South Ripley on September 12 by the score of 5-2.

The Raiders scored one goal in the first 30 minute half with 12:05 remaining and were able to maintain control of the ball on their end for a large part of its balance.

A ten minute halftime break found the Raider team in the huddle chanting, jumping, and pumping themselves up for the second half with 7:30 left before the game was to resume. With just under 7:00 minutes their huddle broke and the Raiders took their respective positions on the field, obviously anxious to get on with the program.

The same intensity was not evident by the young Eagles as they were calm, resting, and talking during their halftime period. It seemed to indicate the need for a boost to pick them up for battle. Especially with 30 minutes left to be played before determining a winner for the contest. The second half played out much as the first.

Again the Raider team scored a goal and held the Eagles to very few scoring opportunities. The Raider score came with 8:20 remaining in the game.

The two Raider scores in the game were off shots by Derek Wade and Jared Grossman, with game assists recognition to Jared Grossman and Jake Waldron.
