Homecoming game a landslide

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

On Friday night, October 7, with a parade starting around 5:00 p.m. setting off the Indians Senior Night and Football Homecoming, antics by young tumblers were a crowd pleaser. Many floats and entries made up the parade, including the Milan Band and Drill Team, cheerleading squads, youth soccer league, class sponsored floats, young footballers with their coaches, local organizations, and the homecoming King and Queen candidates. One of the floats sported a slogan, "Flush the Lancers," as the homecoming game was between the Indians and the Edinburgh Lancers.

The Lancers, were basically washed out of contention early, as at the end of the first quarter the score was Milan 33-0. When the clock hit 9:53 in the first quarter, Nick Arthur of Milan scored a TD and the point after followed for 7-0. Arthur again carried the ball into the end zone for a score of 13-0 with 7:15 remaining.

Jared Ison scored a TD at 4:19 for 19-0, Derek Pennington's kick after was good and took the score to 20-0, building toward being a long night for the Lancers. The Indians scored with 1:24 remaining taking the score to 26-0. The point after attempt hit the right upright and bounced out. Stanley scored again for the Indians with only seconds left making a 33-0 score after one quarter.

At halftime the score was Milan 47-0. At 6:23 in the third quarter Milan's Stanley scored - 53 to 0. The only Edinburgh score came about off a 86 yard run by Chandler. The final score was Milan 53 and Edinburgh 7.
