Milan applies for Rising Sun grants

John Ingram, Milan's town manager, reported the
town has applied for two Rising Sun grants for the renovation
of the new town hall and for a dump truck for the town.
According to Ingram, who reported activities to Milan Town
Council President Paul Hildebrand and member Matt Huffman at
the Monday, October 17, meeting, he has applied for a $50,000
grant for renovation of the new town hall and $35,000 for a
dump truck.
The town would supply $13,000 for town hall and $7,500 for
the dump truck.
Ingram also noted that the land across from 5/3 Bank on Warpath
Drive has been purchased for a Family Dollar store.
The lift station project, which was awarded to Holman Excavating
at the September meeting, will begin immediately, the town
manager said.
During the 40-minute meeting, town council members heard Police
Chief Tom Holt's report for the month of September which included
67 traffic stops, 61 calls for service, 17 assists to other
agencies, and 45 other activities.
Reporting for the Milan Beautification Committee, Linda Combs
said the town has received a $500 grant from the Ripley County
Community Foundation to install welcome flags at the entrances
to the town and down Warpath Drive. Ten flags and permanent
brackets will be purchased and the utilities company will be
asked to do the installation.
Council President Hildebrand signed the agreement with Ripley
County Community Foundation. The town will match the $500 grant.
In other business the two council members signed the contract
for the collection system improvement; agreed to hire an inspector
for the determination of unsafe buildings; transferred funds
for Clerk-Treasurer Gladys Moody; and agreed to replace worn
flags throughout the town with a donation from Baylor Trucking.
Heavy trash pickup will take place this Saturday, October
22, and Milan residents are asked to have their items out the
night
before.
Trick or Treat night for the town's children will be Monday,
October 31, from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. EST.
Town officials absent from Monday's meeting, which had been
postponed one week, were Council member Robert Branigan, Town
Attorney Larry Eaton, and Park Board Chair Linda Baurley.
The meeting ended at 7:10 p.m.
