An all-school carnival will take place on Friday, October
28, at the high school from 5:00 till 7:30 p.m. The public
is invited to attend, according to Guidance Counselor Joyce
Druba, who is the coordinating staff person.
Booths sponsored by the school's clubs and organizations will
be featured in the gym and hallways, and a silent auction will
take place in the cafeteria. Some activities will also take
place in the outdoor area behind the school.
"The purpose of the carnival is to raise funds for the
participating clubs and organizations and to eliminate fundraisers
that go on throughout the year," said Druba, who explained
that each group will be able to keep what they make.
Among the activities the 23 clubs and organizations will sponsor
are a corn hole toss, putt-putt golf, carriage rides, football
toss, cake walk, a dunk tank, bobbing for apples, a haunted
house, face painting, and a T-ball game.
In addition there will be food booths, pizza, tacos, and pop
sold by some of the organizations, and candy bars with proceeds
for the general fund.
A prince and princess will be chosen from the seventh and
eighth grade. Already cans in support of candidates are appearing
in local businesses.
Earlier in the afternoon those students in grades seven through
twelve will be able to attend if they have purchased $4.00
worth of tickets. The hours for students alone are 1:30 till
3:00 p.m.
The school's newest organization - the National Junior Honor
Society - has planned the silent auction, which will take place
in the school cafeteria. Businesses from Versailles, Osgood,
Napoleon, Batesville, Friendship, Greensburg, Lawrenceburg,
and Madison have contributed a variety of gifts.
Well over one hundred items are included in the auction. Everything
from gift cards to free rounds of golf, jewelry, porcelain
dolls, lawn chairs, oil changes and tire rotation, meals at
restaurants, haircuts and hair products, and a savings bond
are among the items up for bid.
In addition, the silent auction will feature pictures from
South Ripley's past sectionals. "We believe adults in
the community will really be interested in seeing and bidding
on these sectional pictures," said Druba.
The 21 eighth graders who have been voted into the National
Junior Honor Society are raising money for a formal induction
in November. A part of the funds they make from the silent
auction as well as a sucker tree, dart throw,
and a haunted house will go to the school's general fund.
