In somewhat of an upset, the sectional
hosting ORVC champion Milan Lady
Indians, fell in combat during
their scheduled opening match of
sectional #44 against the Lawrenceburg
Lady Tigers. The Lady Indians lost
in three games back to back to
back on Thursday, October 20 by
the scores of 25- 21, 25-22, and
25-22.
Mr. Marty Layden, jr high principal
and athletic director, informed
attendees of the IHSAA sectional
and hosting site rules. He introduced
the contending teams and their
coaches, and the Tri-County Harmonizers
whom under the direction of Mr.
Jerry Bruns sang their rendition
of The National Anthem. With Layden's
naming of the officials for the
event, the opening match was set
in motion.
Game one
With the blow of the officials
whistle, Kaity Barton of the Lady
Indians served, resulting in the
first point to the Indians from
the spike of teammate Jennifer
Wullenweber. The following serve,
a point for the Lady Tigers, game
tied at 1-1. The first Tiger serve
by Sara Vorbroker sailed long,
Milan led 2-1. Indian Lacee Alloway's

into an Indian Wullenweber spike,

and a Lawrenceburg lead, then
the ace 22-20. Milan coach Wullenweber
called time-out. Off a Metzler spike
the Tigers advanced to 24-20
, then
Givan's serve fell short into
the net, giving the Indians another
opportunity at 24-21. It was
for naught as the serve sailed
long, giving the Tigers their
needed 25th point to win the
game at 25-21 and a 1-0 lead
in the match.

their first lead at 11-10 and
increasing it to 16-11. At 21
the teams again tied and again
the Indians led at 22-21, however
a tie at 22 resulted in the Tigers
taking the lead at 23-22. Indian
Coach Wullenweber called time-out
but the following serve by the
Tigers was an ace for 24-22,
and controlling their last serve
for point 25. A 2-0 game lead
for the Tiger in the best of

game three but the Tigers drew
the first score. The Indians
found themselves trailing early
by 3, then by 5, 6 then 7 at

tried to jump start her team
as she served for a gain to 22-17.

to advance her team to a tie
at 22 with the Tigers regaining
the lead and the serve at 23-22.
Tiger Givan served for an ace
