Lady Raiders defeated Southwestern
Lady Rebels to advance to second
round action on Thursday, October
20. Taking three out of four
games for the match in wins
of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-18.
The Rebels won in game three
forcing game four by the score
of 25-21.
Game One
Senior Raider Kristen Huss
led off the action serving
to win the first point of the
match, then a tie at 1. The
Rebels took their first lead
at 2-1 then the tie at 2 via
a kill by Raider Abbey Lemon.
The Rebels again gained the
lead off the serve of Raider
Sheena Braley at 3-2. The Rebels
advanced the score to 5-3 off
an ace and a Raider Lemon kill.
A Lemon spike following the
first serve of teammate Erica
Burress, another Raider point
for the tie at 5, then a Rebel
lead at 6-5. The Raiders tied
the score at 6. Raider Lemon
served an ace for a the lead
at 7-6, then to a tie at 7.
The Rebels momentarily got
the lead at 8-7 and the Raiders
again tied the game at 8.
Ashley Thomas sailed her first
serving attempt long for a
9-8 Rebel lead. The ensuing
Rebel serve knotted the game
at 9. Raider senior Bridgette
Adams sent her first serve
attempt long giving the Rebels
the lead at 10-9. The Rebel
serve fell short into the net
for a tie at 10. The Raiders
advanced off the serving of
Huss, scoring 11-10,12-10 off
a Lemon kill, followed by a
Rebel spike, making the score
12-11. The Rebels tied at 12
followed by a Raider gain to
13-12. A Lemon dink following
a Braley serve put the Raiders
up by 2 at 14-12, but the following
serve fell short into the net
for 14-13. The Rebels tied
at 14 but the Raiders again
edged forward at 15-14. Burress
of the Raiders took the score
to 17-15 where Rebel serving
brought their team back to
a tie at 17 before the Raiders
again regained the lead at
18-17.
During Lemon's serving the
Raiders advanced; 19-17, 20-17,
followed by a Huss kill for
21-17, spurring Rebel Coach
Chris Johnson to call time-out.
The ensuing Lemon serve sailed
long for 21-18. The Rebels
were called for being in the
net, taking the score to 22-18
putting Raider Thomas at the
line for the serve. The Rebels
took the point for 22-19, then
23-20. Raider Adams serve was
taken by the Rebels for 23-21
prompting Raider Coach Jett
to call time-out. The Rebel
serve fell short into the net
for 24-21. A Huss attempt ended
in a Rebel gain at 24-22. The
Rebels served for 24-23, then
a tie at 24 before serving
short into the net for a Raider
lead at 25-24. A Lemon kill
following teammate Braley's
serve gave the Raiders the
win of game one at 26-24.
Game Two
A Lemon kill of the first
Rebel serve opened game two
for the Raiders with the 1-0
count. A second kill by Lemon
off teammate Braley's delivery
took the Raider lead to 2-0
with the next serve sailing
long for 2-1. A Rebel ace tied
the game at 2, but again on
the following serve, Lemon
was able to get the kill for
a 3-2 Raider lead. The Rebels
aced, knotting the game at
3 and again a Lemon kill put
the Raiders on top at 3-2.
The Raiders led at 4-3 on the
serving of Burress. The Rebels
tied the game at 4, but the
Raiders went back in front 5-4 on the Rebel
serve falling short into the
net. A tie at 5 off Raider
Lemon's serve, followed by
a Huss kill on the ensuing
Rebel serve making the score
6-5. Thomas' serve knotted
the game at 6 and again the
Rebels delivered their next
serving attempt short into
the net, for 7-6 , the Raiders
in the lead.
Raider Adams' serving moved
the score to 8-7 before Rebel
serving again tied the game
at 8, however, the Raiders
were able to edge back into
the lead at 9-8. Raider Huss
serving to 10-8 then 10-9 from
a Rebel kill. The Rebels again
served themselves into a tie
at 10 but Raider Lemon's kill
of their ensuing serve put
the Raiders right back in front,
11-10. Braley's serve fell
short and tied the game at
11, as did the Rebel servers
for 12-11.
With Raider Burress serving,
a Thomas dink for 13-11, then
14-11, and 15-11, enticed the
Rebel coach to call time-out.
The following serves merited
a kill by Lemon for 16-11,
a Thomas dink for 17-11, a
kill by Thomas for 18-11, prompting
the Rebel coach to again call
time-out. The next serve by
Burress merited a Lemon kill
for 19-11, then 19-12. The
Rebels served for an ace at
19-13, then wide for 20-13.
A Huss kill off the Lemon
serve took the score to 21-13,
but the second serve fell short
for 21-14. A Thomas spike on
the Rebels' ensuing serve made
the score 22-14, however, the
Thomas serve fell short for
22-15. Huss again spiked the
Rebel serve for 23-15, which
brought Raider teammate Adams
to the line. The serve was
taken by the Rebels for 23-16.
The Rebels gained to 23-17
before Huss collected another
kill for the game, taking the
score to 24-17 and giving her
the opportunity to put the
game away on her serve. Serving
the winner was not to be for
Huss as the Rebels scored their
18th point. The Lemon kill
of the following Rebel serve
finished off the game at 25-18
and put the Lady Raiders up
2-0 in the match.
Game Three
The Rebels went up 1-0 off
the opening serve by Huss followed
by a Lemon kill of the Rebels
first serve for a 1-1 tie in
game three's beginning. The
Rebels advanced to 2-1 on Raider
Braley's serve. The game was
again knotted at 2 from a Lemon
dink. Burress serving for the
Raiders led them to their first
lead at 3-2 followed by a Lemon
kill for 4-2, a Lemon block
for 5-2, then a Rebel score
for 5-3. The Rebels came back
to tie at 5 before a Braley
dink put the Raiders back up
at 6-5. The Rebels tied at
6 off the Lemon serve and took
the lead at while serving at
7-6, 8-6, then 8-7.
Raider Thomas served and teammates
Huss and Lloyd went up for
a successful block and point
knotting the game at 8, but
the Rebels would once again
take the lead at 9-8. A Huss
spike on the Rebel served tied
the game at 9. Adams served
and the Rebels went up 10-9.
At the score of 11-9, Raider
Coach Jett called for a time-out.
A Lloyd spike brought the Raiders
back to within one at 11-10.
The Rebels scored off the Huss
serve for 12-10. Rebel serving
began to click as they scored
13-10, 14-10 by a kill, 14-10,
15-10, 16-10, and finally a
Burress kill stopped the Rebel
advance at 16-11. Braley served
for the Raiders to 16-12, 16-13
on a Lemon block, then 17-13.
The Rebel serve added one
for the Raiders to 17-14. Burress'
serve to the Rebels for 18-14,
followed by a short serve by
the Rebels to a score of 18-15.
Adams' serve was blocked by
the Rebels for 19-15, however
a spike by Huss of the Rebel
serve took the score to 19-16.
Huss served for 19-17 then
wide for 20-17. Erin Webster
of the Raider squad killed
the Rebel serve bringing the
score to 20-18. Raider Adams'
serve was taken by the Rebels
for 21-18. The Rebels served
to the score of 22-19 before
Raider Huss aced her serve
for 22-20. A spike by the Rebels
put the score at 23-20. An
ace serve by the Rebels followed
by a Lemon kill gave the Raiders
their last opportunity for
a comeback win with the score
at 24-21. Raider Braley toed
the line but the Rebel took
advantage and put the game
away at 25-21 taking the match
to 2-1.
Game Four
The Rebels got off to a 2-1
lead while serving and edged
to 3-1 on Raider Braley's first
serve. The Rebels serve netted
3-2 followed by Raider Burress'
serve knotting the game at
3 on a Lemon kill, then the
score of 4-3 with the Rebels
again leading. A Raider tie
at 4 on the Rebel serve, a
Rebel lead at 5-4 on Lemon's
serve, the tie at 5 on a Rebel
serve to a Rebel lead at 6-5
on Raider Thomas' serve.
The Rebels went to 7-5 before
a Huss spike netted a 7-6 score.
Adams tied the score at 7 while
serving for the Raiders, gained
the lead at 8-7, continued
with 9-7, and an served the
ace for 10-7 before the Rebels
Coach called for a time-out.
A Burress kill following the
time-out for 11-7, then a serve
wide for a Rebel point, 11-8.
The Rebels served an ace,
then short for a score of 12-9.
Raider Huss' serve was scored
by the Rebels. The Rebel serve
scored by the Raiders led to
a Braley serve being killed
by the Rebels to the score
of 13-11. Lemon killed the
Rebels next serve and Burress
went to the service line and
served for the Raiders. Webster
got the kill, a spike by Lemon,
followed by a Lemon kill taking
the score to 17-11 and a Rebel
Coach time-out. A Lemon dink
followed for 18-11 then 18-12.
The following Rebel serve
was killed by Thomas for 19-12.
Raider Alex Snyder's serve
fell short, 19-13. The Rebels
scored on a kill and an ace
for 19-16 when Raider Coach
Jett called for a time-out,
before losing the serve back
to the Raiders at 20-16. Raider
Webster got the kill on Thomas'
first serve for a score of
21-16, her second serve an
ace to 22-16, then 23-16, followed
by a Huss dink to the score
of 24-16. The ensuing Thomas
serve fell short into the net
at 24-17 giving the Rebels
their last opportunity to create
a comeback.
The Rebel serve was quickly
controlled by the Raiders meriting
their needed 25th point for
a 25-17 win and a three game
to one match win setting them
up for a second round match
against Lawrenceburg.
The Lawrenceburg Tigers took
the Raiders out of the sectional
in 3 straight games by the
scores of 25-21, 25-17, and
25-13, before going on to the
championship match and defeating
the North Decatur Lady Cougars,
also in three straight by scores
of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-18. |
