Indians - Primed for the re-match

The hosting Milan Indian Varsity Football Squad went to work in a second round sectional bout on Friday night, October 28. The Indians defeated the South Decatur Cougars by the score of 24 to 6.

The Indians had advanced to the second round by defeating the Edinburgh Lancers on Friday, October 21 by the score of 61-0.

By defeating the Cougars the Indians earned the right to go to a final sectional level competition, where they will face Park Tudor at Park Tudor.

In earlier regular season competition this season, on September 9, Park Tudor defeated the Indians in Milan by a score of 13-6 in overtime, following regulation time expiring with a tie of 6.

The Park Tudor trail to the final round of sectional #38 play was through defeating Monrovia by the score of 40-0 on Friday the 22nd, and this past Saturday the 29th, defeating Indianapolis Ritter 24-7.

The season's record now stands at Milan, 6-5 and Park Tudor, 9-2.

In other area sectional sites:

In the 3A sectional #23, Batesville over Edgewood 37-0, the Bulldogs will next face North Harrison.

In sectional # 15, South Dearborn defeated Madison by the score of 42-13, and East Central over the Seymour Owls, 34-7. South Dearborn will travel to East Central for their last round of sectional #15 on Friday, Nov. 4.

In 2A sectional action at Brownstown, Lawrenceburg will face Brownstown.

JCD hosts fall sports awards program

Following opening comments by A D Meyer, jr. high co-ed soccer coach, Andy O'Grady led the way, opening his session with his definition of what "coach" stands for. " A coach has the responsibility to 'advise and assist,'" he stated, and thanked his team members for their very hard work and espoused on their accomplishments through this season of action.

Their season record was 11-2-1. Taking the Most Improved Honor was Duncan Wolff. The Most Determined Award went to Michael Luers, and the Mental Attitude winner was Brandon Wilhoit. The Scholastic Award went to Eric Wirth with a 11.3 GPA out of a possible 12.0.

The 7th grade volleyball coach, Taneha Negangard, spoke of her team and the 8th grade team as Coach Kris Kappes was under the weather.

The 7th grade record was 5-13, with Most Improved going to Kalie Egbert, Most Determined to Kayla Kohlman and Hailee Sizemore, and the Mental Attitude, and Scholastic Award for a 10.0 were to Heather Linville. The 8th graders' season record was 3-17. Most Improved was Jessica Comer, Most Determined - Cassie Hellmich, Mental Attitude to Elisha Menchoffer, and Scholastic Award for 11.06 went to Danielle Wagner.

The last to speak on the jr-high program was the co-ed cross country coach, David Huling. The girls' record was 50-4 with an outstanding 27-0 in conference. The Most Improved went to Brooke Gilland and Kayla Forbes, Most Determined to Becca Wagner, Mental Attitude to Samantha White, and the Scholastic Award winners were Erica Hicks and Becca Wagner knotting the score at 10.71. The boys' record was 51-6 and 27-5 in conference action. The Most Improved was to Brandon Wilhoit, Most Determined to Brock Shadday, and the Mental Attitude to Derek Lunsford. Huling mentioned that he found it imperative to give the Mental Attitude Award to the runner who won most. Samantha White and Derek Lunsford broke all kinds of previous records this season for and at JCD. The Scholastic Winner with a 10.36 was Zach Kappes.

Fall sports participants not receiving special recognition awards but acknowledged were:

In soccer: Shane Adams, Tyler Powers, Trevor Arnett, Dalton Garret, Megan Hardy, A. J. Ertel, Blake Williams, Brent Ertel, Renee Meister, Andrea Roberts, Steven Douglas, Alyssa Hammond, Becca Meister, and Cody Martin.

For volleyball- 7th grade: Megan Joseph, Danielle Gilland, Kristina Moore, Sierra Pope, Jen Owens, Janae Horn, Brooklyn Billman, Nicole Wirth, and Jordan Rayburn and Erica Caudell the managers.

For 8th grade: Erica Menchoffer, Andrea Rogers, Molly Tunny, Amanda Rangel, Brianna Culp, Melissa Horan, Alissa Stolze, Kayla Fullenkamp, and Lauren Fennelly and Samantha Walke the managers.

In co-ed cross country: Elizabeth Hermesch, Kathleen Moody, Allie Shinkle, Hannah Phebus, Amanda Rangel, Alyssa Hammond, Torie Gilland, Meagan Hughes, Idona Newhart, Kara Wagner, Ethan Wagner, Trevor Arnett, Zach Schuler, A. J. Ertel, Duncan Wolff, Devin Shadday, and Tyler Reatherford.

The boys' record was 71-12 and the girls' 52-31. Chevron earners were Alisha Lord, Kaitlin Hughes, Amber Lunsford, Kelly Wagner, Kyle Horan, Justin Eaton, Grant Gilland, Andrew Wagner, Tyler Bradshaw as Manager and Austin Lord. Earning a Certificate was Andrew Huff. A Letter and Chevron were earned by Jodi Hardy, Valorie Wagner, Kayla Bradley, David Busch, and Blake Sutton.

Winner of the Most Valuable Girl was Alisha Lord, and the Most Valuable Boy was Justin Eaton. The Most Determined Girl was Amber Lunsford and the boy was Kyle Horan, Most Improved Girl was Kaitlin Hughes and the boy was Grant Gilland. Captain for the Girls - Alisha Lord and Amber Lunsford, for the boys - Kyle Horan. The Scholastic Award winner for girls - Valorie Wagner at 11.16 and for the boys again was Andrew Wagner with a 11.66 GPA of a possible 12.0.

* Earning All Conference status: Alisha Lord and Amber Lunsford of the girls team and for the boys, Kyle Horan whom likewise are invited to the Pines on November 2.
