Funeral services set for former police officer
Visitation will be held tonight, November 10,
from 5-8 p.m. for Raymond Paul Doane, 64, of Milan, at the
Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Funeral services are
set for Friday, November 11, at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m.
Pastor Tom Holt will officiate the service. Burial will be
in the St. Paul Methodist Cemetery south of Sunman. Masonic
services will be conducted by the Osgood F&AM Thursday
at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Milan American Legion
will conduct military rites at the graveside.
Doane died at his Milan residence, Monday, November 7. He
was born December 1, 1940 in Norwich, (Chenango County) New
York, the son of George Raymond Doane and Helen Elizabeth (Welton)
Doane.
Survivors include his wife Gerry E. Doane of Milan; two sons,
Timothy Michael Doane of Shelton, Washington State and Christopher
Lee Doane of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren,
Wesley Doane of Port Orchard, Washington State, Timothy Edward
Doane of Libby, Montana, and Felishia Raye Doane of Libby,
Montana; three sisters, Sharen (Shari) Kastning of Milan, Joan
Doane of Norwich, New York, Billie Knapp of S. New Berlin,
New York; a brother, Charles Doane of Pine Bush, New York,
and his brothers and sisters in-law, Gene and Juanita Taffe
of Milan, Richard and Mary Lee Brandes of Milan, Rodney and
Roberta Brandes of Batesville, Ronald and Betty Brandes of
Milan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Doane,
a brother, Norman Doane and his parents.
Doane was a Special Deputy with the Ripley County Sheriff's
Department, retired from law enforcement and had served with
the sheriff's department and the Sunman Police Department and
was retired as a security officer at Fluor Fernald. He started
the first Ripley County Shop-With-A-Cop Program. He had worked
as a supervisor for the Indiana State Highway Dept. and had
served as a Pre-Trial Diversion Director for the Ripley County
Prosecutor's Office.
He was a past president of the William Rayner Fraternal Order
of Police Lodge #177, a member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge
#603, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, past chaplain of the Doane
Family Association of America, served as a Ripley County Councilman
and was a past member of Rescue 30.
Doane served his country as a military policeman in the U.S.
Army, and was a member of the Norwich Methodist Church. He
enjoyed traveling and collecting gemstones.
Memorials may be made to the William Rayner Fraternal Order
of Police Lodge Shop-With-A-Cop Program.
