Fire destroyed this beautiful two-story brick
home on 4075 W. Hopewell Road, Holton, (near Dabney) in the
early morning hours of Sunday, November 13.
According to information from Holton's Fire Chief Toney Mayberry,
the department was called to a flue fire on Saturday evening,
November 12, about 7:00 p.m.
Mayberry noted there was a small fire in the flue and the
department quickly got it under control. "We took out
part of the wall near the flue and the fire was completely
out when we left Saturday night," Mayberry noted. Then
the department had another call about 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning,
November 13. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found
the home fully engulfed in flames.
"From what we can tell now itstarted in
an unrelated area to the first fire," Mayberry
said, but noted the exact cause is still under investigation.
Barbara Hollin was the owner and sole occupant
of the home. She had gone to spend the night with her daughter
on Saturday
after the first fire and was not at home when the blaze erupted
on Sunday morning according to Mayberry. The fire chief said
firefighters were again on the scene Monday morning, November
14 to control hot spots.
The two-story structure was completely destroyed with nothing
left standing but one brick wall with the rest reduced to rubble.
At press time Mayberry noted that while the home was a complete
loss, a damage estimate had not been given. He further noted
that the fire was still under investigation.
