The Lady Eagle reserve team opened
their season with a resounding thumping of
the Hauser Lady Jets, 39 to 11, however the
opening home game against the Lady Raiders
of South Ripley would not be such an easy task.
The opening tip, controlled by the Lady Eagles,
led to a first quarter JCD lead of 12-8. At
the half time break, the Eagles led by the
score of 19 to 13, but it's complexion was
about to make a drastic change.
In the third quarter the Lady raiders tied
the Lady Eagles at 21, took the lead for the
first time at 23-21, and added to their lead
to a score of 29-21 before the Eagles were
able to counter for 29-23 ending the quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Raiders yet
held the lead by six at 31-25 with 3:00 left
in the game. An Eagle three closed the game
to 31-28 at 2:05 and at 1:50 the Eagles scored
for a tie at 31.
Eagle Valorie Wagner put her team in the lead
once again, with a made free throw, 32-31.
Lady Raider Snyder dropped in a basket giving
the Raiders the lead at 33-32.
Lady Eagle Janine Huff scored one of two free
throws to tie the game at 33 with 53.5 seconds
remaining. Lady Eagle Carissa Simon drained
a three pointer to put the Eagles up 36-33,
and with 33 seconds left, the Raiders turned
the ball over.
A fifth foul on Raider Kellie Collier at 29.8
seconds put Eagle Simon on the line for two
shots where she converted one of two for a
37-33 score. The Raiders turn over led to a
Raider foul putting Eagle Simon back on the
line where she converted one of two for 38-33.
With time running out, Lady Raider Erica Ester
scored the basket for 38-35, missing the attempted
free throw. The Eagles ran the clock out, finishing
it as an Eagle win at 38-35. |
