Lady Eagles keep the air beneath their wings

Coach Scott Smith and his Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Lady Eagle squad continue to soar defeating the Lady Batesville Bulldogs in front of the home fans at the Eagle nest, 57-44, extending their flight to 5-0.

Prior to the game, Coach Smith and team had put together a perfect 4-0 in their new season, and one could easily see they had prepared well for the game.

Going face to face with their perfect record on the line on Friday night, November 25, the Lady Eagles came out strong and proud. The Eagle's never tarried, leading at every juncture of the contest.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Jac-Cen-Del 16 to Batesville 9. At the half, the score had escalated to JCD - 29 and the Lady Bulldogs - 21.

Carrying the 8 point lead into the locker room at half time was a boost for the Lady Eagle team. Team preparation was proving to have been accurate, promoting positive results for them.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs were able to draw to within 6 points. However, six would be their closest opportunity to catch up, as the Eagle attack moved them steadily forward in pursuit of a victory.

First quarter scoring for Jac-Cen-Del came from Janelle Hardesty with 5, the result of two FG's and a FT. Emily Einhaus netted 6 off two - 3 pt. FG's. Abby Rohlfing added a FT, and Kiersten Young tallied two FG's for 4 totaling a 16 point first quarter drive.

The Lady Bulldog first quarter scoring of 9 points were the result of Angela Fullenkamp's two FG's for 4 and 5 from two FG's and a FT by Carrie Glitz.

The second quarter also won by the Eagles, but narrowly, at 13-12. Lady Eagle scoring the result of a FG each for 6 points by Abby Lauber, Rohlfing, and Young. Hardesty added 7 from two FG's and a 3 point shot.

The Lady Bulldog scoring in the second quarter was: 4 by Cara Hartman with two FG's, a FG for 2 by Ashley Wuestefeld, and a 6 point run off three FG's by Glitz.

The half time score stood, Lady Eagles 29 - the Lady Bulldogs 21.

Second half scoring in the third quarter again found the quarter score tight, but the Eagles ever so slightly adding to their lead. Lady Eagle scoring was from Alisha Lord and Einhaus, each with a FG, Hardesty and Rohlfing each adding 4 from two FG's apiece.

The Lady Bulldog's 10 points in the third came from two ladies, Hartman with a pair of FG's for 4 and Glitz with 6 off three FG's.

In the fourth, the Lady Eagles again won the quarter. The Lady Eagle scorers were Rohlfing and Simon, each with a FG, Lord adding a FT, and Hardesty netting 11 points from three FG's and 5 FT's.

The Lady Bulldog scoring came from a FG by Glitz, a FG and a FT by Fullenkamp, and an 8 point effort by Hartman from three FG's and 2 FT's.

Lady Eagle scoring:

Hardesty (season high) 27, while also adding 5 assists, Rohlfing 9, Einhaus 8 (also pulling down 9 rebounds), Young 6, Lord 3, Lauber 2 and Erika Simon 2 for a total of 64.

Lady Bulldog scoring:

Glitz 19, Hartman 16, Fullenkamp 7, and Ashley Wuestefeld 2 for a total of 47.

Coach Smith commented, "We got a great offensive game effort from Janelle as well as a great team defensive effort." "We held two starters scoreless and limited points from everyone except Glitz and Hartman." "That was what we needed to do to win". "I thought we had a team effort tonight, as everyone did something positive."

The Lady Eagles next face Hauser.

Lady Raiders dejected by Lady Charger effort at Tyson

In the second South Ripley Lady Raiders basketball contest of the season held at Tyson gymnasium on Friday , November 28, the outcome was anything but pretty for the Raider team, coaches, and fans. The opposing team, the North Decatur Chargers, failed to show much as well, however were able to rally enough effort to win at game's end 49-25.

Using a different rotation and starting lineup, the Raiders began the first quarter with a early and long lasting lead of 2-0. Yes, Abbey Lemon put in a field goal for two at 6:19 in the first quarter and that remained the total scoring until Lady Raider teammate Ciara McGuire added 1 of two free throw attempts for a 3-0 lead at 1:07.

Scoring was at a minimum but fouls were not as whistles blew for 5 team fouls on the Lady Chargers and 3 on the Lady Raiders. Fouls assessed were to Lady Charger's Ashley Pulskamp - 2, and 1 each to Rachel Hawkins, Breanne Schoettmer, and Alison Lamb. On the flip side, Lady Raiders Beth Stratton had 2 and Ashley Thomas was called for 1.

To begin the second quarter, Stratton was whistled for her third foul as the game progressed at nearly the same pace as the first quarter. At 5:45, Lady Charger Schoettmer drove for a lay up, 3-2 Raiders. At the 4:57 mark, Lady Raider Coach Steve Snyder called for a time-out.

Angela Gauck stole the ball and drove to the basket for a pair, 4-3 Chargers, with 4:53 left in the second quarter. Erin Webster picked up her first foul at 3:40 for the teams 5th.

Lamb of the Lady Chargers put up a 3 point basket for 7-3 Chargers. A Raider missed shot put back up by Ashley Thomas drew the Lady Raiders to 7-5 at 3:09. A foul was called on Lemon for the Raider's 6th team foul.

Hillary Wenning scored a deuce, 9-5, Chargers. A second foul was called on Charger Schoettmer for the Charger's 6th team foul of the half. Wenning was next to score, moving the score to 11-5, Chargers. A moving screen foul whistled against Schoettmer gave her a 3rd called foul and a 7th team foul. With the quarter about to expire, Webster was whistled for her 2nd, and the teams 8th putting Lady Charger Pulskamp on the line where she made 2 FT's.

The half time score - Lady Chargers 13 to Lady Raiders 7.

The Lady Chargers put on a bit of a run so to speak if you call 8 points over three and a half minutes a run. Scoring a basket at 7:35, 7:12, and 6:22, Wenning added 6 for the Charger cause.

A field goal by Schoettmer accounted for the rest of the eight point run by the Lady Chargers. At 4:31 the Lady Raiders Ashley Thomas got one to drop for 21-9. McGuire also dropped a shot through the net for 21-11 at the 4:04 mark.

At the 3:40 mark, Lady Charger Schoettmer again scored for a Charger lead of 23-11. At 3:03, Lady Raider Beth Stratton picked up her 4th foul and the teams 1st for the half. Lady Charger Lamb connected for a deuce and a trey elevating the Charger score to 29-11 at the 2:11 mark.

A 3rd foul was whistled against Raider Webster for the 2nd team foul of the half as Charger Pulskamp went to the line where she drilled a pair for 31-11.

At 1:40, Raider Lemon scored for 31-13, which wrapped up the scoring for the rest of the third quarter. Lady Charger Elizabeth Frye was called for her 1st foul and the teams 3rd before the quarter expired.

During the fourth, Charger Schoettmer scored at 7:30, 33-13. Raider Huss was called for a foul, her 1st, the teams 3rd. At 6:25 Charger Gauck was called for her 1st foul, the teams 3rd. At 5:42 Charger Schoettmer scored, 35-13. Lady Charger Gauck picked up her 2nd foul and Schoettmer was called for her 4th, the teams 4th.

Thomas scored for the Raiders, 35-15. Chargers Lamb and Kelsey Ewing each scored, taking the score to 39-15 at the 4:08 mark. Lady Charger Wenning was charged with the 1st foul of the game and the teams 5th. The Lady Charger Coach called for a time-out with 3:09 remaining.

Charger Pulskamp scored for 41-15. Beth Stratton scored for the Raider effort, 41-17. Charger Lamb drilled a 3 for 44-17 at 1:48. Beth Thieman scored for the Lady Raiders, 44-19. Alex Snyder scored for South Ripley, 44-21. Wenning added a 3 for the Chargers taking the score to 47-21 at 1:05.

Lady Raider Erica Ester was called for her 1st foul, sending Charger Frye to the line for the bonus, where she converted for a score of 49-23. The Lady Raiders would score one more time before time expired. Erica Ester put in a FG for the final score of: North Decatur Chargers 49 and the South Ripley Lady Raiders 25.
