Helicopter malfunctions, injured man transported
by ambulance
Wanda English Burnett - Editor
An accident that occurred last Wednesday evening,
December 7, about 7:51 p.m. has medical personnel asking questions
along with family and friends of Donnie Bowling, who was injured.
Bowling, 51, of Versailles, crashed his vehicle south of 200
S. on Benham Road, near Versailles, when for an unknown reason
his 1996 Subaru Legacy left the roadway, struck a tree, trapping
him inside.
Area emergency medical services arrived, assessed the scene
and called for a helicopter to transport the patient. LifeLine,
out of Greensburg, responded to the call, but after they landed
at the scene, they were unable to get the helicopter up and
running. Bowling was then taken to King's Daughters' Hospital
in Madison by Rescue 69.
Officers say no seat belts were in use and speed could be
a factor.
A family friend noted that Bowling could be released from
the hospital this week.
Deputy Rob Bradley of the Ripley County Sheriff's Department
is investigating the crash. He was assisted by Versailles Police
Department, Versailles Fire Dept., Truck 61, ISP, Rescue 69,
and Ripley County Paramedics.
