The South Ripley Lady Raiders
posted back to back to back victories to lighten
the load of this season's onset. The Lady Raiders
posted their third season victory on Monday
evening at South Ripley High School by defeating
the Rising Sun Shiners 58-27.
The Shiners controlled the opening tip only
to have the Raiders' Ashley Thomas score the
first basket giving the Raiders the lead at
2-0. Kristen Huss added a FG for 4-0 followed
by Beth Thieman dropping 2 of 2 free throw
attempts through for an early 6-0 run.
By the 4:47 mark of the first quarter, fouls
whistled against the Lady Raiders were one
on Thomas, two within 8 seconds on Ciara McGuire,
one on Abbey Lemon, and before the quarter
ended Beth Stratton was called for her second
as well.
Going to the line, Lady Raider Lemon added
1/2 FT's, followed by a Huss FG, and Thieman
again capitalizing on a pair of FT's for 11-0.
Lady Shiner Danika Bowman scored the first
and only field goal for the Shiners' as the
quarter ended, 11-2.
The Lady Raider starters reentered to open
the second quarter of play. Lemon scored a
pair of FT's, followed by a Huss FG taking
the score to 15-2. The Lady Shiners went on
a bit of a scoring spurt as Jaclyn Armbrister
spotted up for a FG and a 3 advancing the score to 15-7 before a called Raider
time-out by Coach Steve Snyder.
Field goals were scored by Lady Raiders Thomas
and Huss before McGuire picked up her third
foul near the 4:30 mark. The Lady Raiders continued
their second quarter scoring with a Thieman
FG, a Huss FG, a 3, and 1/2 FT's for a Raider
total of 27 at the half time break.
During the second quarter, Lady Raider Thomas
picked up her second and third called foul
and a second was whistled against Lemon.
The balance of the second quarter scoring
for the Lady Shiners came from Tiffany Siekman
with a FG and Armbrister adding 2/2 at the
stripe for a team total of 11 points in the
half.
At 27-11 the third quarter opened. Quickly
Huss added a FG for the Raiders and Shiner
Armbrister countered with a FG. Lady Raider
Lemon scored a FG, countered by Shiner Jena
Elder. Raider Lemon retaliated, scoring another
FG. With the score at 33-15 and the clock nearing
the 5:30 mark, McGuire of the Raiders was whistled
for her 4th foul.
Lady Raider Huss nailed a FG for 35-15. Shortly
to follow, McGuire was called for her fifth
foul, benching her for the balance of the contest
at 4:07 in the third quarter.
In the remainder of the third quarter, a third
foul was assessed to Lady Raider Lemon, and
a first foul to Josie Franklin.
The balance of the third quarter Raider scoring
was by Huss with 2 FG's, Thieman a FG, and
Franklin 1/2 FT's for a 42 point team total
at the end of 3. Shiner scoring came from Siekman hitting 2/2
FT's, Armbrister 2/2 FT's, and Bowman with
2/2 FT/s giving the Shiners a score of 21.
Near the 5:50 mark of the fourth quarter Lady
Raider Franklin picked up a second foul putting
Lady Shiner Bowman on the free throw line where
she made both for 42-23. Lady Raiders Stratton
and Lemon each added a pair of FT's, Thomas
put in 1/2 FT's and Thieman scored a FG taking
the Raider score to 49-23 near the 3:30 mark
in the fourth.
The Lady Raiders bench and the Lady Shiner
bench were entered to play out the balance
of the game. The late scoring by the Lady Raiders
came from Erica Ester scoring 1/2 FT's, Courtney
Walker with a FG, Susannah Mann a FG, and Kelli
Collier added 2/2 FT's and a FG, taking the
Raider final game tally to 58.
The Lady Shiner late scoring came from Michelle
McDaniel with 2/2 FT's and a FG for a 27 point
team total for the game. The final score, Lady
Raiders 58-27 over the Rising Sun Lady Shiners.
The Lady Raider Varsity were then 3 and 5
for the season.
The Lady Raider reserves won 50-30 over the
Lady Shiners.
