Versailles Council seeks funding for water plant
upgrade

Among the items for discussion at the Versailles
Town Council meeting on Thursday, December 8, was funding for
the water plant upgrade.
Council president Sue Meisberger and members John Holzer and
Jim Taul decided to get information from Financing Public Works
Projects on obtaining a $600,000 loan. This, according to the
council, would be more economical for the town than financing
through the sale of bonds.
Reporting for the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department, Fire
Chief Dwight Bauman said the department had logged 312 runs
this year. They now have two heat imaging cameras, thanks to
grants from Rising Sun Regional Foundation and Homeland Security.
Street/Water Superintendent Kevin Hensley received unanimous
approval from the council to purchase a diesel truck at a price
not to exceed $33,000.
The purchase will be made from the Riverboat Revenue Sharing
Fund.
Pertaining to the sale of SUSCOM to COMCAST, the Versailles
Council voted unanimously to allow COMCAST to have the franchise
as the Versailles cable company.
Town Marshal David Adams and Deputy Marshal Joe Mann reported
identification tags have been placed on all police department
equipment. The
ID tags have also been ordered for the Street/Water
Department equipment.
In police activity for the month of November, 9 citations
had been issued, along with 8 warnings, and 6 assists for other
departments. A total of 12 other activities were recorded for
the Versailles Police Department.
Concerning the wastewater plant, Mark and Deanna Salyers reported
everything was going well.
Clerk/Treasurer Ted Spurlock announced the office would be
closed on Friday, December 23, and Monday, December 26. A reorganization
and end-of-the-year business meeting will take place on December
30 at 2:00 p.m. in Town Hall.
The December meeting ended at 7:35 p.m. All town officials
were in attendance with the exception of Town Attorney Larry
Eaton.
