Wanda English Burnett - Editor

At the regular meeting of the Holton Town Council on December 13, Ordinance #2005-01 was adopted. This ordinance deals with the operation of off-road vehicles and snowmobiles within the town's limits.

The ordinance states that it is unlawful for anyone to operate a vehicle that is defined as "off-road" including snowmobiles on the public streets and alleys in the town of Holton. Exceptions can be made due to emergency situations and will be determined by the Town Council President or other person the council may designate.

A fine of up to $100, plus court costs, will be imposed on those violating the ordinance.

Holton Town Marshal Billey Moore noted that the ordinance will be enforced and said it was a matter of safety.

Under old business, the council noted that the vent pipe had been fixed in the new community building. They were experiencing a sewer smell due to a pipe that wasn't properly installed. Also, an outside hydrant had been fixed as well as new faucets installed in the bathrooms.

It was noted that there was no leaking at the lagoons, the sewer was in compliance with the permit.

Under new business, it was noted that blacktopping had been finished in the town and new signs have been installed.

President Robert Furst commended Billey Moore for doing a good job cleaning the town after the first significant snowfall. He noted that they have a new load of cinders and will be ready for more inclement weather.

Another traffic study will be done in the town of Holton on US 50. Furst noted that he and Moore met with an official from INDOT recently and will continue to push to have the speed limit lowered through town as it used to be.

It was noted that USDA/FHA would be receiving a thank you letter for their loan to the town of $475,000 for the sewer system.

An ordinance concerning the county's area zoning code was passed, along with a sewer budget ordinance.
