Couple upset about Homestead Credit mixup

Michael and Jennifer Moeller appeared before
the Ripley County Commissioners at their December 19 meeting.
They were upset because no one told them there was a deadline
for filing Homestead Credit. They had called the auditor's
office on March 10 to ask about filing and were told they could
mail the information in. The deadline was March 10 and their
information arrived at the auditor's office on March 16. The
Commissioners explained they were sorry for what happened,
but they had no authority over the situation. This will cause
the Moeller's to pay $900 additional taxes over the next two
years. They left the meeting saying they were going to see
their attorney.
The Commissioners again discussed the procedures
for subdivision roads with Planning Director Tad Brinson and
County Surveyor
Jeff French. There had been a discrepancy between what the
County specs were and those of the Planning Commission. President
Bob Reiners said the Commissioners are suggesting that after
a subdivision road has been completed according
to county specifications the county will take it over after
one year if there are no problems. If there are problems, they
will have to be fixed, then the one year requirement starts
again.
The biggest part of the Ripley County Commissioners
meeting was taken up with the opening of annual bids. Bids
were taken
for concrete, stone, asphalt, and fuel. The bids were taken under
advisement and will be awarded at their next meeting on December
30.
Tourism Director Katherine Taul appeared before the County
Commissioners. She asked that Don Krabowski and Karen Vollmar
be reappointed to the Tourism Commission for another two years.
The Commissioners approved the appointments.
Bob Reiners was reappointed to the Southeastern
Regional Planning Commission Board. All other appointments
will be made at their December 30 meeting.
All three commissioners were in attendance: President Robert
Reiners, Chuck Folz and Lawrence Nickell. Attorney Neil Comer
was present to advise the Commissioners. Auditor Mary Ann McCoy
attended to take minutes of the meeting. The next Commissioners
meeting will be Monday, December 30 at 8:00 a.m. at the Commissioners
Room at the Ripley County Courthouse Annex.
