In a special meeting of the Milan Community School Corporation Board of Trustees, High School Principal Michael Parks received a preliminary notice of non-renewal of his contract.

Meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, board president David Voss and members Edward Amberger, Stephanie Baker, and Anita Pitts issued the notice with a 4-0 vote. New board member Anthony Veldhaus was not present.

Board member Pitts made the motion: "On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Milan Community School Corporation, I move that Donald Swisher, Superintendent, issue a written preliminary notice of the board's consideration of non-renewal of Michael L. Parks as Principal for the Milan Community School Corporation."

The motion received a second from board member Amberger and a unanimous vote.

Earlier in the week when the board met for the December 19 meeting, the matter was brought to the floor, but received no action.

President Voss had stated during personnel items that the board was considering a motion for non-renewal of an administrative contract, but no one of the board members proceeded with the action at that time.

A special meeting was called a few days later.

Addressing the seven members of the senior class who were in attendance at the 7:30 a.m. meeting, President Voss explained that the action would not affect the 2005-2006 school year.

He also noted that Principal Parks has five days to request a conference with the superintendent to discuss the matter and five additional days to request a conference with the school board.

Parks began his administrative career at Milan High School in the 1995 school year.

The called meeting ended at 7:35 a.m.
