SR Raider Boys' win homecoming game over the Milan Indian

Tyson gym was once again the site for the South Ripley boys' basketball homecoming game and festivities. On Friday, January 20, amidst a crowd of Alumni, the Raiders were triumphant over the Milan Indians by the score of 67-52.

A rough and rugged battle ensued as neither team was willing to fold. The Raiders led at the first quarter break, 14-11. Scoring for the Indians came from a Jeremy Hunt FG & 3, 2/2 FT shooting by Derek Pennington, and a pair of FG's by Bryant Withers. The Raiders found scoring from 3 Trent Tucker FG's, and a FG each by Brandon Seabolt, Michael Fear, Michael Matthews, and Wes Messer.

In second quarter action the Raiders edged ever so slightly away from the tribe to lead at half time 31-23. Second quarter scorers for the Indians were Hunt with his second 3 & a pair of FT's, Pennington adding a FG, and David McIntosh with a FG & 3/4 FT's. The Raider additions came from Fear with 2 FG's & a 3, 2/2 FT's by Chris Miller, and a FG each by Matthews, Messer, Seabolt, and Erik Demaree.

Continuing the game in the third quarter, the Indians held the Raiders to only 14 points, but could only muster 10 for themselves. Indian scoring in the third were 2 FG's by Josh Schwanholt, and a FG each by Pennington, McIntosh, and Kyle George. Contributing to the Raider cause in the third were Fear with aFG & 4/4 FT shooting, a 3 by Matthews, a Tucker FG, and a FG & 1/2 FT shooting by Messer.

The fourth quarter proved to be a shooting frenzy as the two teams combined for a 41 point quarter. The 19 point effort by the Indians came from 2 Hunt 3's, a FG, & 1/2 FT shooting, a FG & 3/4 FT's made by McIntosh, added to by Tyler Kirk's FG & 1/2 FT shooting and a FG by Brandon Montooth.

In the Raider fourth, Seabolt's effort merited 3 FG's & 6/6 at the free throw stripe. Miller added 5/8 FT's, and Matthews made a FG. Rounding out the Raider scoring for the night, Messeer made a FG & FT.

The final score rendered the Raiders the winner, 67-52.

Milan's Lady Indians ambush the Bulldogs

Tuesday night, January 17, the Milan Lady Indians while hosting the Batesville Lady Bulldogs, defeated the 'Dogs', 58-50.

The Lady Indians got off to a positive start in the first quarter out scoring the Lady Bulldogs 11-5 The Lady Indian scoring of 11 was the result of a Kelly Stutler 3 point shot, a pair of Kady Alloway FG's, a FG by Emily Schmaltz, and 2/2 FT shooting by Megan Lade. In contrast, the Lady Indian defensive efforts held the Lady Bulldog offense to just 2 FG's by RCT MVP Carrie Giltz and a 1/2 FT output by Ashley Wuestefeld.

In the second quarter the Lady Bulldogs inched ever so minutely closer, as they out scored the Lady Indians 13-12, yet leaving the Lady Indians in the lead at halftime 23-18.

Lady Bulldog scoring in the second came from Cara Hartman with 1/2 FT shooting, a pair of FG's each by Giltz and Wuestefeld, and a FG and 2/4 FT's by Jane Turchyn.

The Lady Indian scorers were Stutler with a FG, K. Alloway with a FG & 2/2 FT's, Lacee Alloway scoring a pair of FG's & 1/2 FT's, and Cassie Billingsley adding 1/2 FT's.

Again in the third quarter the Lady Bulldogs cut into the Lady Indian lead, but yet again trailed at quarter's end, 30-36.

Lady Indian points scored were from K. Alloway and Lade each with a FG, a FG & 4/6 FT shooting by L. Alloway, and 2 FG's contributed by Billingsley. The Lady Bulldog third quarter scoring was the result of a FG each by Elise Merkel and Angela Fullenkamp, and Carrie Giltz 4 FG's.

In the Batesville Lady Bulldog fourth, Giltz added 3 FG's, Fullenkamp 2 FG's & 5/6 FT's, and Hartman a FG & 3/4 FG shooting. The Lady Indians extended their margin from the scoring of Stutler's 2 FG's, L. Alloway's 2/2 FT shooting, 3 FG's by Schmaltz, 1/2 Ft by Lade, and 3 FG's & 5/12 FT attempts made.

The final score , Milan Lady Indians 58, Batesville Lady Bulldogs 50. Lady Indian Kady Alloway led her team's scoring with 21 for the night and Carrie Giltz of the Lady Bulldogs again led her team's efforts with 22.
