At a special meeting of the Milan Board of School Trustees, on Monday, January 23, members of the board voted to not renew Principal Michael Park's contract.

The special session was to only address one item- the non-renewal of Park's contract. Board President David Voss presided over the meeting and told those in attendance since the item they would be addressing was personnel, no comments would be accepted from the audience. Voss went on to say his "door was always open and they could always call him or anyone else on the board if they had something they wanted to discuss." He further asked those attending not to be upset about the situation, "that it was how it had to be for this meeting."

Voss told the audience that all meetings were public and nothing "went on behind closed doors." He said the time for questions on the issue at hand had passed making the meeting an "action only" meeting.

The issue was addressed by Edward Amberger, who made the following motion, "On behalf of the Board of School Trustees of the Milan Community School Corporation, I move to non-renew Michael Parks' contract as principal of Milan High School for the Milan Community School Corporation, effective at the end of the contract period. I further move that Donald Swisher, superintendent, issue to Michael Parks, written notice of the Board's decision to non-renew his administrator contract with the Milan Community School Corporation." The motion was seconded by Anita Pitts and carried a 4-0 vote with Anthony Veldhaus abstaining.

The meeting only lasted four minutes, with Stephanie Baker making the motion to adjourn.
