Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

he #4 ranked 1A Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles battled the #3 ranked 2A Southwestern(H) Lady Rebels on Thursday, January 26, to a final score of SW(H) 74-68 JCD, following an overtime session.

The Lady Rebels' shots were falling and their focused determination carried them to an 11point lead by the end of the first quarter at 27-16.

Unwilling to cry uncle, the Lady Eagles dug deep to bring themselves back into the thick of things, out scoring the Lady Rebels in the quarter 22-11, to tie the game at the halftime break at 38.

Midway through the third quarter, the Lady Eagle momentum progressed their lead to a 9 point advantage, largely due to the hot shooting efforts of senior Janelle Hardesty. However, as many sports stories go, the Lady Rebels countered in the balance of the quarter to only trail by 2 points, 56-54, ready to open the fourth.

Near the 6:00 mark of the fourth quarter, Hardesty netted a 3 to give the Lady Eagles what turned out to be their last lead in the game at 63-60. Lady Rebel sophomore Devin Brierly tied the game at 63 with a 3 point shot.

The Lady Eagles failed to score on their next opportunity, but the Lady Rebels did not, and were able to take the lead. The Lady Eagles managed several runs in the time remaining and were able to tie and send the game into overtime, but were unable to capture the advantage to gain the win. The final score at the end of overtime, Lady Rebels 74-68 Lady Eagles.

Hardesty led the Lady Eagle scoring with 30 poins including 8 of 9 three-point shots made, tieing the school record for most 3's scored by a player in one game.

Playing in Rebelville is ever a hostile environment at best in any sport, but the Lady Eagles done themselves and their school proud while there, as was noted by Coach Scott Smith.

The JCD Lady Eagles and the SW(H) Lady Rebels each have 15-3

overall season records, but JCD is now 4-1 in ORVC competition, and SW(H) moved to 5-0.

The JCD Lady Eagle Reserve fell 45-35, and they also are now 4-1 in orvc and 15-3 overall.
