Bittersweet last home game for South Ripley Lady Raider seniors at SRHS

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

An Eagle controlled tip, leading to a couple of turnovers, resulting in a Lady Eagle Abby Lauber 3, was no doubt not the plan of Lady Raider Coach Steve Snyder on senior night at the SRHS gym, but that's how it began, and at game's end, the Lady Raiders fell short 58-50, entitling the Lady Eagles to a three way tie for the 2006 ORVC Championship title with Southwestern Hanover's Lady Rebels and the Switzerland County Lady Pacers, each with 5-1 season records. This marks the first time since 1996 that the Lady Eagles have earned an ORVC championship title.

February 2 was prime to be an opportunity for the Lady Raiders to avenge the 10 point early season loss to the Lady Eagles at JCD in November as senior recognition night was at hand. The Lady Raiders team featured three graduating players: Josie Franklin, Kristen Huss, and Beth Thieman, and Team Manager Stephanie Miller.

Lady Raider Thieman answered making 1 of 2 free throw attempts for the first Lady Raider scoring. Lady Eagle Lauber scored a FG and appeared to be as on fire as she had been on Tuesday night against the ND Lady Chargers. Lady Raider Ciara McGuire scored a FG but quickly Lady Eagle Emily Einhaus drained a 3, leading to a Talena Huff FG for 10-3. Lady Raider Ashley Thomas scored a pair of FT's and Lady Eagle Erika Simon scored 1 for 11-5, ending the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Lady Raider scoring came from Thieman with 2-3's & 4 FT's, Abbey Lemon 2 FGs, and McGuire a FG for a 21 point half. The Lady Eagle scorers were Alisha Lord with a 3 & a FG, Einhaus 3, Lauber 3, Kiersten Young 2-3's, and Huff a FT for a 29 point total at the halftime break.

Lady Eagle Einhaus opened the third with a FG & a 3, adding yet another FG in the quarter. Other Lady Eagles scoring: Janelle Hardesty 3 FG's, E. Simon, Lauber and Lord each adding a FG. The Lady Raider scoring came from a Thomas FG, 2 McGuire FG's, Thieman with 2 FG's & a FT, and Lemon adding a FG & 2 FT's.

With the fourth quarter beginning JCD 48-37 SR, Lady Eagle Abby Rohlfing scored 2 FT's leading to a Hardesty FG and 2 FT's, 2 Lauber FT's, and 2 Lord FT's, for a game total of 58. The Lady Raider scoring in the fourth came from a Thieman 3, 2 Thomas FT's, 2 McGuire FG's, a Lemon FG, and a Kristen Huss FG for the team total of 50 points.
