Betty Jean Foster Wuellner
Betty Jean Foster Wuellner, 71, of Milan, died Monday, February
20, 2006 at Ripley Crossing Care Center, Milan. She was born
January 1, 1935 in Milan, the daughter of Floyd “Red” and
Ruth Starkey Corum, both deceased. She married Kenneth J.
Wuellner on May 22, 1954 and he survives.
Survivors also include sons Keith of Milan and Kevin of Cincinnati, OH; daughter
Kristy and husband Mike Carpenter of Milan; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Wuellner worked many years at the CW Winters Grocery and later worked and
retired from the JC Food Store. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church
at Stumpke’s Corner, the VFW Auxiliary, the Good Neighbor Club and was
a former member of the Rebekka Lodge.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, February 23 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home, South Main Street, Milan. Funeral services will be Friday, February
24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Milan with Pastor Richard
Mackey officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Ripley Crossing
Care Center activity fund.
Lorraine B. Simmons
Lorraine B. Simmons, 85, of Swiss Villa Living Center, Vevay,
died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital,
Madison. She was born December 24, 1920 in Owen County, KY
the daughter of Luther and Marie Boone Duvall, both deceased.
She married Robert D. Simmons and he preceded her in death
on April 29, 1997.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law James and Mary of Vevay; Carroll
and Nancy of Madison; Robert and Alice of Holton; daughter and son-in-law Sharon
and Ralph Bliton, Jr. of Madison; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by brother Estel Duvall; sister Sally Duvall and grandson
Kenneth Wayne Simmons.
Mrs. Simmons owned and operated a restaurant in Vevay and had worked at Jackson’s
Restaurant in Madison and at U.S. Shoe. She had cooked at the Jefferson County
Jail. Mrs. Simmons was a former nurse’s aide at King’s Daughters’ Hospital
and retired as an attendant at Madison State Hospital. She was a member of Brooksburg
Baptist Church.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, February 23 from 9:00 a.m. until time of
funeral. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison
Chapel with Rev. Michael L. Barnes officiating. Burial will be at the Brooksburg
Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Brooksburg Baptist Church.
Rufus F. Thalman
Rufus F. Thalman, 89, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, died Friday,
February 17, 2006 in California. He was born August 24, 1916
in Georgetown, OH, the son of Joseph and Anna Kellum Thalman,
both deceased. He married Carlean (Connie) Combs of Milan
in 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1974.
Survivors include daughter Phyllis Coe of Milan; brother Les of Tampa, FL; sisters-in-law
Eva Combs and Fern Combs Lewis; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thalman was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a pressman for Premier Manufacturing
Co. in Dayton, OH for 30 years. Mr. Thalman was a member of the Eastmont United
Methodist Church and the American Legion.
Visitation will be Friday, February 24 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral
Home, South Main Street in Milan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February
25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Milan First Baptist Church with Pastor Harris Long officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans, Eastmont United Methodist
Church or the Milan First Baptist Church.
Michael Thomas
Trimble Sharpless
Michael Thomas Trimble Sharpless, 33, of Pensacola, FL, passed
away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Foley, AL. He was born
at Long Beach, CA, on March 7, 1972 the son of Bill and Susan
Perron Sharpless of Batesville, and they survive.
Other survivors include son Kaleb Sharpless of Fairhope, AL;
natural father Michael Trimble, Sr. of Miami, FL; brothers
Matthew, Miles and Marcus Sharpless of Batesville; grandmothers
Marion Sharpless of Robertsdale, AL and Alice Bruce of Terre
Haute, IN.
Mr. Sharpless was the owner and operator of the Category Five
Restaurant and Bar in Foley, Alabama.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. at
the Weigel Funeral Home, 151 W. George Street, Batesville with
Grant Cyster officiating. Burial will be at the Little Memories
Cemetery, Sunman.
Memorials may be given to the Sharpless Children’s Fund.
Sollie T. Miller
Sollie T. Miller, 66, of Osgood passed away Thursday, February
16, 2006 at his residence. He was born at Dayton, Ohio on
February 9, 1940 the son of Sollie and Virginia Tracey Miller.
He was married to Georgia Osborn on March 12, 1961 and she
survives.
Other survivors include one daughter Beverly Miller and her
fiancÈe Wayne Miller of Versailles; sons Ronald Miller
and his wife Regina of Milan, Rick Miller and Ann of Bright,
and Josh Miller of Osgood; eight grandchildren; one sister
Louise Miller of Osgood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Sollie N.
Miller, and his brother Conrad Miller.
Mr. Miller worked for Hill-Rom and Romweber Furniture in Batesville
for 33 years retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Little
Memory Old Regular Baptist Church near Sunman.
Funeral services were Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Little
Memory Old Regular Baptist Church with Brother Robert Haney
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Little Memory Church or the donor’s
choice.

Margaret Mae
Vanosdol
Margaret Mae Vanosdol, 70, of Versailles, died Tuesday, February
14, 2006 at
King’s Daughters’ Hospital, Madison. She was born October 25, 1935
in Switzerland County, the daughter of Jonah Burnis and Susie Ashby Barnes, both
deceased.
Survivors include daughter Barbara Jean and husband Earl Bowling of Versailles;
sister Ellen Ogden of Osgood; granddaughter Trina and husband Jamie Schutte of
Versailles; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Vanosdol was a former employee of Muscatatuck State Hospital. She was a
member of Wesleyan Church of Versailles.
Funeral services are today, Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Neal’s
Funeral Home, 306 S. Walnut Street, Osgood. Burial will be at Cliff Hill Cemetery,
Versailles.
Memorials may be given to American Lung Association.
Jody Lynn Winters Karst
Jody Lynn Winters Karst, 48, of Moores Hill, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at
Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. She was born April 15, 1957, the daughter
of LeVon and Joan Ashcraft Winters of Milan and they survive. She married William
D. Karst on August 28, 1976 and he also survives.
Other survivors include brother Todd Winters of Batesville and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Karst had worked many years for Winters Insurance Agency in Milan, and had
also been employed at Peoples Building and Loan in Aurora. She was a lifetime
member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stumpke’s Corner. She was also
a longtime member of the Quarter Horse Association.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, February 16 from 5-8:00 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home, South Main Street, Milan. Funeral services will be Friday, February
17 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Tom Holt and Rev. Harris Long
officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Milan.
Memorials may be given to the Dearborn County Humane Society.

Doris Faye Geisler
Doris Faye Geisler, 91, of Rexville, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at
her residence. She was born near Bryantsburg on July 8, 1914 the daughter of
Arthur and Lula Adams Housefield. She married Alva Geisler on January 30, 1936
and he preceded her in death on September 14, 1994.
She is survived by six sons, Leslie Geisler of North Vernon, Elvan Geisler and
his wife Barbara, Roy Geisler, Bernard and his wife Debbie Geisler of Madison;
Bobby Geisler and wife Aggie of Washington and Marvin Geisler and wife Teresa
of Vevay; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren;
one sister, Peggy Ruse of Rexville.
Her parents, one son, Alvin and grandchildren Kenneth and Carolyn Geisler; one
brother, Merle Housefield and one sister Louise Farrell preceded her in death.
Mrs. Geisler was a homemaker and had been a member of the Liberty Christian Church
since 1930.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at the West
Fork Baptist Church with Logan Fugate officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5- 8 p.m. and will also be at the
West Fork Baptist Church.
Memorials may be given to the West Fork Baptist Cemetery.

Joan Clemens Wallace
Joan Clemens Wallace, 74, of Hanover, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006
at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY. She was born in Tell City on January
13, 1932
the daughter of Eugene and Wilma Cassidy Clemens, both deceased. She was married
to A. Martin “Marty” Wallace of Hanover on May 22, 1975 and he
survives.
She is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law Chris and Catherine Webster
of North Vernon; The Honorable Jon W. and Julie Webster of North Vernon; Matt
and Eileen Webster of Madison; stepsons Scott Wallace of Houston, TX and Charlie
Wallace of Stuart, FL; brother and sister-in-law Eugene C. Jr. and Jenny Clemens
of Owensboro, KY; five grandchildren and three nephews.
Mrs. Wallace was a 1949 graduate of Cannelton High School. She attended Indiana
University. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison
and Daughters of the American Revolution, North Vernon; past board member for
Girls, Inc.; Madison Jefferson County Community Foundation; Madison Country Club
and the Madison Elks Lodge.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, February 9 from 4-8:00 p.m. with the Rosary
recited at 7:30 p.m., and from 9-9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10 at the Morgan & Nay
Funeral Centre in Madison. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10
at 10:00 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madison with Rev. John
A. Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Hanover Cemetery.

Martha L. Pettit Meek
Martha L. Pettit Meek, 71, of Dupont, died Monday, February 6, 2006 at Jewish
Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky. She was born March 19, 1934 in Canaan the daughter
of Charles L. and Anna Armand Pettit and they preceded her in death. She married
Kenneth E. Meek, Sr. on December 21, 1951 in Bryantsburg and he preceded her
in death on December 20, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. “Eddie” Jr. and wife Cheryl
Meek of Dupont, Jeffrey A. and wife Robyn Meek of Dupont; one brother, Samuel
Pettit of Dupont; one sister, Mary Barnes Gray of Canaan; three grandchildren;
close friend Curt Liter of Bedford, Kentucky; and many other nieces, nephews
and other relatives.
One brother, Robert A. Pettit, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Meek worked as a postal clerk at the Dupont Post Office. She attended the
Dupont United Methodist Church for many years and was now a member of the First
Baptist Church of Dupont. She was also a member of the Madison VFW Post 1969
Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, February 9 at 1 p.m. at the First
Baptist Church of Dupont with Pastor Dave Noffsinger and Rev. Ross Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Cancer
Society.

Jean Henderson
Stevens
Jean Henderson Stevens, 81, of Decatur, passed away Monday,
January 30, 2006 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
She was born February 23, 1924 in Holton, the daughter of George
and Rissa Hammon Henderson, and they preceded her in death.
She married Quentin Stevens on March 17, 1945, and he preceded
her in death.
Survivors include sons G. Carl (Randi) of Decatur; Bryce H.
of Clinton, TN; and K. Alan of Plymouth; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters.
Mrs. Stevens was a homemaker and a registered nurse. She worked
as a school nurse at South Bend LaSalle High School. She was
the founder of the Woodcrest Philharmonic Band, and a member
of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, February 2 from 2-3:00
p.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral
services will follow visitation at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral
Home with Rev. Laura Sherwood officiating. Burial will be at
Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Decatur,
or to American Diabetes.

Bertha Emma Beetz
Bertha Emma Beetz, 87, of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, January
29, 2006 at St. Elizabeth South, Edgewood, KY. She was born
September 14, 1918 in Otterbein, KY, the daughter of Henry
and Laura Flora Ullman Yentsch, and they preceded her in
death. She married Charles P. Beetz and he also preceded
her in death.
Survivors include sons Gregory of Dillsboro and Charles, Jr.
of Erlanger, KY; and sister Ida Barber of Big Sandy, TX.
She was preceded in death by sisters Selna and Alberta Yentsch;
Irene Krebs; Anna Kerstein; Matilda Romohr; Gertrude Pebles
and Elizabeth Stevens; and brother Carl.
Mrs. Beetz was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1 at the Ulrich
Filter Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery,
Dillsboro.
Memorials may be given to St. Peters Lutheran Church or the
Dillsboro Fire Department.
Jean Redding Garland
Jean Redding Garland, 76, of Vevay, passed away Monday, January
30, 2006 at her residence. She was born October 20, 1929
in Paris, KY, the daughter of Thomas and Katie Lee Sanders
Watkins Redding, and they preceded her in death. She married
Benny D. Garland on March 1, 1947, and he survives.
Survivors also include sons and daughters-in-law Benny, Jr.
and Jane of Rising Sun; Roger and Lisa of Vevay; John Mark
and Kim of Lexington; sisters Ruby Blackburn of Vevay; Ruth
Garland of Cynthiana, KY; Judy Johnson of Paris, KY; Billie
Marking of Lexington, KY; brothers Earl Clark Watkins of Richmond,
KY and John Riley Watkins, Jr. of Georgia; ten grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; special cousin Brother Sylvester Sanders,
Jr. of Paris, KY; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by stepfather John Riley Watkins;
sons Timothy and Ricky Lee; brother Thomas Redding and sister
Anna Kathryn Redding.
Mrs. Garland and husband, Benny, helped develop and market
Grandview Gardens Cemetery in Madison. They also farmed and
raised turkeys. She served as church secretary and Sunday School
teacher, as well as working with the jail ministry and Women’s
Missionary Circle at the Spring Branch Baptist Church. She
was a member of the Riverview Homemaker’s Club, Gideon’s
International Auxiliary Camp, and the Switzerland County Farm
Bureau as well as 4-H leader for the Switzerland County 4-H
Club.
Visitation will be Friday, February 3 from 3-8:00 p.m. and
Saturday from 9-11:00 a.m. at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral
Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay. Funeral services will be Saturday,
February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick
Daugherty officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial
Gardens, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Bibles be purchased
through The Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
