Milan Indian Senior Derek Pennington receives honored football recognition

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

Information obtained from Milan Indian Head Football Coach Ryan Langferman acknowledged that Senior Derek Pennington has received notification of the honor of being only the seventh Milan Indian footballer over the years to be selected as a member of the "South All-Star Team".

Only after having been named to the Region 10 All-Star Team, which occurred for Pennington in January, was he eligible of this honor. His now being named to the South team is also the result of a group of coaches from all five southern region teams, who as of Monday, March 6, made their team member choices known.

Some of Pennington's season accomplishments are:
DEFENSE:
Tackles - 44 solos, 52 assists
Sacks - 12
Tackles For a Loss - 28
Interceptions - 1 (returned for TD)
Fumble Recoveries - 1

AWARDS:
Indiana Football Coaches Association 1A All-State Tight

School Spring Sports -the transition is upon us

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

As high school seniors across the country edge ever closer to that magical moment in their life, one more sport season is at hand for them to participate in, and that is spring sports.

Locally, a vast array of possibilities present themselves as baseball, softball, track & field, golf, tennis, and other venues avail for the student.

In discussing the upcoming seasons with the seniors I can't detect if their anxiousness is for a new sport to begin, for warmer weather, or merely just that when this set of activities is over, life without high school begins.

Whatever the case may be, spring sports offer a change most are ready to deal with.
