A little gold and some big smiles for the extra effort

Milan Swim Coach, Rhonda Goodpaster, joins in the rewards of her swimmers as they have captured some of the gold and the limelight for their efforts.

This was the first year Milan had a USA Winter Swim Team. Twenty-four swimmers participated with 9 achieving divisional qualifying times. Those qualifying were: Anthony Grippo, Larry Grippo, Lauren Grippo, Devin Riley, Elizabeth Smith, Jared Sutton, Coop Wade, Heath Weston,and Shelby Zornes.

Thirteen year old Smith placed first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 200 backstroke, swimming a state qualifying time, She also finished 12 in the 200 free, 14 in the 50 free and 17 in the 100 free.

Lauren Grippo, 14, placed third in the 200 breaststroke and qualified 6 in the 100 breaststroke. She also placed 18 in the 50 free, 25 in the 100 back stroke, and 58 in the 100 free.

At fifteen, Shelby Zornes placed 9 in the 500 free, qualified 12 in the 200 fly, finished 23 in the 200 free, 27 in the 100 fly, and 36 in the 100 free.

Devin Riley at age 12, swam the 50 free placing 43.

On the boys' side, 16 yr. old Larry Grippo placed 2 in the 500 free, and qualified 4 in the 100 and 6 in the 50 free.

Heath Weston competed in the 200 IM, qualifying 12th and 14th in the 100 back, and placed 20th in the 50 free and 22nd in the 100 free.

Anthony Grippo at age 12, finished 14th in the 500 free, 16th in the 50 free, 21st in the 200 free, 27th in the 100 free, and 36th in the 50 backstroke.

At age 10, swimmers Coop Wade and Jared Sutton finished 29th and 30th respectfully in the 50 back, and Sutton finished 32nd in the 50 free.
