Napoleon postmaster to retire
after nearly 30 years service
Wanda English Burnett - Editor
Joyce Huffman will officially retire from the
postal service the last day of this month after serving for
29 1/2 years.
She began her career as a substitute carrier for
Carl Semback at the Osgood Post Office and also filled in for
Nathen Banks. Then she worked her way up to a full time mail
carrier for Rural Route #3. She then transferred into the office
where she worked as a clerk and substitute carrier.
In 1983, Huffman transferred to the Napoleon Post
Office as Postmaster and has served there for the past 22 1/2
years.
Huffman always has a smile on her face as she
greets patrons the same way she did when she began her career.
She says she plans on enjoying her yard and garden, raising
rabbits and goats and of course, spending a lot of time with
her grandchildren!
Married to Gerald Huffman, the couple has four children: John
Huffman of Osgood; Debbie Luers of Batesville; Scott Huffman
of Milan; and Bob Huffman, who is deceased. They have five grandchildren.
An open house, hosted by her family, will be held
in Huffman's
honor on Sunday, April 2, from 1-4 p.m. The event will take
place at the Napoleon Senior Center. The family requests no
gifts please.
