Officers respond to attempted robbery report
Captain David Pippin of the Ripley County Sheriff's Department,
responded to a call that there were suspicious male subjects
at the Interstate 74 Eastbound Rest Park possibly attempting
to rob a truck driver there.
The report came in at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Sunday evening, April 9.
Captain Pippin was on State Road 101, just north
of Sunman when the call was dispatched. He quickly responded
and found the vehicle in question, a Cadillac, at the 157 mile
marker. Although the windows were tinted he could tell there
were at least three individuals inside and requested back up.
Batesville's officer Lt. Jeff Thielking arrived
to assist, with officer from Dearborn County and the Indiana
State Police also responding.
Further investigation revealed the men were not
actually trying to rob the truck driver as initially thought.
The three had been actively involved in a dice game near one
of the trucks and the driver, who had been robbed before, mistook
their actions as an attempt to lure him over to commit robbery.
The officers did however find that one of the
occupants of the Cadillac, Raymond M. Keezer, was wanted on
a warrant out of Florida. Another occupant is currently on probation
in Ohio for Grand Theft Auto. Keezer was transported to the
Ripley County Jail and arrested for Public Intoxication. The
other two occupants were released.
