JCD board makes no decision on full day kindergarten issue

No decision was made on full day kindergarten at Jac-Cen-Del at the board meeting May 16. Heidi Newhart attended the May meeting regarding the issue. Board president, Kathleen Dickman, said no recommendations have been presented to the board for approval at this time. Superintendent Bill Narwold advised the administration is still working on the matter. He said there will be more meetings with teachers and staff before any recommendations will be made.

Summer employees were approved. Summer Day Care will employ Cindy Toops, Sue Bunselmeier, Jane Ann Vankirk, Annette Pindell, Christi Heaton and Janet Mohr.
The following coaches will fill the 2006 summer positions: Boys Basketball Camp/Open Gym - David Bradshaw and Steve Narwold; High School Summer Baseball - David Bradshaw; Babe Ruth Baseball - David Bradshaw; Girls Basketball/Open Gym - Scott Smith; Conditioning - Scott Smith; and Girls Volleyball Camp/Open Gym - Michelle Sebastion.

Emily Day was hired as a special education teacher for the 2006-2007 school year. Lynne Davis will receive 60% of pay as a three-day a week Speech and Language Pathologist. Angela Stapp will be the Speech and Language Pathologist the other two days a week at 40% pay.

High School Principal Ray Ratledge advised the seniors are ready for graduation on Saturday, May 27, at 2:00 p.m. Summer school will be held in two sessions: June 12-23 and July 10-21. Travis Rohrig will be the instructor.

The following students were recognized: Talena Huff qualified for the Nationals in Health Occupational Students of America; Kelly Blair was a National Merit Semifinalist; at the Academic Super Bowl, JCD came in second in most categories; the Jr. High Girl's Track Team is undefeated and are the ORVC Champions; and Valarie Wagner set a school record in the 100 meter and the long jump (17’2").

In other business: The 2007 senior class trip to Washington, D.C. was approved. Handbooks for both schools were approved.

The treasurer received a check for $62,352.50 from the treasurer of Ripley County for the first half of 2006 Property Tax Replacement Credits.

School lunch prices were set: Jr./Sr. High breakfast is $1.25 and lunch is $1.50. The elementary school breakfast price is $1.00 and lunch is $1.25. Adult lunches will be $2.25.
Board member John Billman said he had received a letter from the fifth and sixth grade students. They are interested in Jac-Cen-Del starting a football team.

All five members of the board were present: Kathleen Dickman, Deanna Young, Charles Hughes, Paul Hardy, and John Billman. The next regular meeting of the JCD Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the JCD Elementary Library.
