Raiders
blast Tigers in Saturday double header at Lwrenceburg
Gary Franklin - Sports Writer
The South Ripley varsity baseball team traveled
to Lawrenceburg on Saturday, May 20, to take on the Lawrenceburg
Tigers. That is putting it mildly as the Raiders exploded on
the Tigers, winning the opener, 18-1 in 5 innings, following
in game two with a second game win of 5-0. Raider bats were
buzzing, as ball after ball went zipping into the Lawrenceburg
field off the Tiger pitchers.
A pitcher's best friend is a strong defense behind him and a
battery giving him runs, and the Raiders came across with that
honor as well, allowing only one Tiger score through the two
games of action while accumulating 23 themselves.
Raider Pitching
In game one, Raider Cory Yeomans led the charge from the mound
allowing only one hit in his four innings of pitching, fanning
8 of the14 batters he faced, and walking 1. Tim Burcham entered
to pitch the 5th inning where a double by the first Tiger batter
he faced, led to the only run scored by the Tigers for the day.
Burcham faced 4 batters and fanned 1.
BJ Sieverding opened game two, pitching 4 innings, striking
out 7 of the 13 batters he faced. Josh Cumberworth entered to
pitch the 5th and 6th innings and faced 10 batters striking
out 2, and Tim Burcham again came in to pitch the 7th where
in relief for the Raiders he struck out 1 of the three batters
he faced to close out game two. A very productive outing by
the Raider pitching staff of the day, as well as in the batter's
box.
