RCHS to have grand re-opening

Renovations to the interior of the Ripley County Humane Society shelter will be showcased at the grand re-opening event set for Saturday, June 3.

According to Donna Huffmaster, founder of PAAIN (People Assisting Animals In Need) and consultant to the humane society, those attending the open house will see renovations to the inside that were made possible through a grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation.

The parking lot has been expanded and the K-9 Express or Big Blue Bus as it is affectionately called by Huffmaster, will be on display. The bus transports animals from Ripley County to New England where they are welcomed into loving families. Huffmaster noted that New England has mandatory spay, neuter laws making it sometimes hard to get a pet.

“Ripley County is a model shelter,” Huffmaster noted, saying others in the surrounding communities are looking to them for ideas. “We have a lot to be proud of,” she continued.

For those who bring one of the following items - a gallon of bleach, liquid laundry soap, roll of paper towels, or a de-activated cellular phone - they will receive a complimentary lunch at the open house from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Those items are always in need at the shelter.

There will be a grooming and training expert on hand on Saturday to give tips to pet owners. Also two lucky people will be drawn for free neuter or spay procedures for their pets. Those signing up to be a member of the Ripley County Humane Society on Saturday will be receiving a free gift along with a year-and-a-half membership for the price of one year, according to Huffmaster.

Huffmaster, along with Operations Manager Christy White, encourage the public to come out on Saturday and see the changes at the shelter located between Versailles and Osgood, just off Highway 421. For more information about the shelter log on to rchumane.org or paain.org.
