Curtis "Curt" Hammond
Curtis "Curt" Hammond, 73, of Madison, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his residence. He was born May 14, 1933 in Midway the son of Peter and Mary P. Curtis Hammond, both deceased. He married Shirley F. Upp on June 28, 1959 at the Mount Sterling Baptist Church near Vevay and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, John Hammond of Salem, Joe Hammond and wife Twila of Holton, James Hammond and wife Sherri of Dupont; two brothers, Wilbur Hammond and wife Bo of Tuscumbia, AL, John Hammond and wife Shelby of Gates, TN; one sister, Miriam Griffith and husband Marvin of Rounda, FL; four grandchildren, Courtney Elizabeth, Caitlyn Jo, James Deron and Audrey Grace Hammond; three step grandchildren, Sean Bird, Ashley and Sarah McCauley; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Beach in 1944 and one brother, Earl Hammond in 2004.
Mr. Hammond was a 1951 graduate of Dupont High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on November 30, 1953 in Louisville, KY, rising to the rank of Private First Class in the Korean War serving Company M in the 17th Infantry as a radio op-erator. He was honorably dis-charged on November 1, 1955 from Ft. Sheridan, IL, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He farmed early in life, later working at the Madison State Hospital in the maintenance department. He also had worked for Sears in Bloomington in shipping and receiving for several years. He retired after 33 years of service with Reliance Electric in Madison as a supervisor. He was a member of the Dupont Alumni Association and had served as president for several years. He was a faithful member of the Wirt Baptist Church in Wirt serving as a deacon, former trustee, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and moderator. He enjoyed collecting marbles, auctions, flea markets and collecting junk. He was a devoted husband, dad and pa paw.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, May 30, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Wirt Baptist Church in Wirt.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Troy Hedges officiating.
Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont with a flag presentation held at graveside.

Berdella Ann Borgman
Berdella Ann Borgman, 85, of Osgood, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born April 20, 1921 in Batesville, the daughter of Charles and Christine (Huth) Schmidt. She married Malcolm Borgman at the St. Louis Church in Batesville on April 20, 1940 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Peggy Rennekamp (Vernon) of St. Mary; five sons, Kenneth and Rita of Osgood, Richard of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, Thomas and Gloria of Osgood, Paul and Donna of Osgood and Steven of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and one sister, Viola Borgman of Morris.
One son, Gene Borgman preceded him in death.
Mrs. Borgman was a retired employee of the US Shoe Corporation in Osgood and a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville.
Funeral mass was held Monday, May 22, at 12 noon at the St. Louis Church in Batesville with Fr. Bernard Varghese officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Hansen Center, the Franciscans Missionary or the Osgood Area Kiwanis.

Billie J. Palmer
Billie J. Palmer, 72, of Osgood passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Heritage House in Batesville. She was born at Nashville, Tennessee on December 2, 1933, the daughter of Orville and Willie Cecile Holly Goad. She was married to Claude Palmer, Jr. on February 10, 1951 and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Steve Palmer and his wife Dru of Winfield, Louisiana, Roy and Sharon Palmer of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Clifford and Angela Palmer of Westport; three daughters, Sharon Raines and her husband Herbert of Brookville, Norma Selby and her husband Ralph of Reelsville, and Blanche Cox and her husband Frank of Osgood; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker. Funeral services were Monday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with her son Steve Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Greendale Cemetery at Osgood. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Carole Jeanne Forte
Carole Jeanne Forte, 52, of Bloomfield, Kentucky passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at University Hospital in Louisville. She was the daughter of Rev. A.J. and Jeanne Doyle James. She was married to Geno Forte and he survives. Other survivors include her mother Jeanne James of Versailles; sister Mary Curtin and her husband Rev. John Curtin of Birmingham, Alabama; brothers Mike James of Bloomington and David James of South Bend; uncles David Doyle of Texas and Edgar Doyle of Ohio; aunts Louise Barrish of Arkansas, Stella Engelhardt of Versailles, and Beda Davish of Ohio.
Mrs. Forte was a member of the Chaplin Fork Baptist Church and was a second grade teacher at Cox’s Creek Elementary School. She received her graduate degrees from Georgia State and Bryan College and her Masters Degree from the University of Louisville. She was currently working on her Doctorate of Administrative Education. Mrs. Forte was recognized for two years in Who’s Who of American Educators. She was also a gifted musician and singer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at the Dabney Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Cole officiating.
Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Roberta C. Brunsman
Roberta C. Brunsman, 90, of Sunman, died Thursday, May 18, 2006. Funeral mass was held Monday, May 22 at St. Nicholas Church, Sunman.

Virginia Ruth "Jeanie" Mix
Virginia Ruth "Jeanie" Mix, 79, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at The Inn at Wingate, Barboursville, West Virginia. She was born in Ripley County on September 4, 1926 to Robert and Leatha Reynolds Adams and was a resident of Aurora most of her life. She was married to Lyman E. Mix who passed away on September 27, 2001.
Mrs. Mix was employed on the bottling line for Seagram’s for many years. Three years ago she moved to West Virginia to be closer to her daughter. While living there she was a member of the Red Hat Society of Wingate.
Survivors include two children, Sonny and Sharron Mix of Aurora and Mary Sue and Lewis Christian of Proctorville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Rick Christian, Mick and Carol Christian and Robin Wiggers; five great grandchildren, Brooke and Morgan Christian, and Kaela, Alexias and Isaac Wiggers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 24, 2 p.m. at Filter Funeral Home, Aurora with Rev. Martha Emery Hoffman officiating. Internment will be in the New Liberty Cemetery, East Enterprise. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m at the funeral home and Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Robert M. Huntington
Robert M. Huntington, 83, of the Hopewell community passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006 at his home. He was born at Tefft in Jas-per County on August 16, 1922 the son of Abner and Eva Lilly Huntington. He was married to Agnes Hall on September 21, 1947 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Danny Huntington and his wife Sharon Crane of Potomac, MD, Bruce and his wife Nancy of Butlerville, and Greg and his wife Paula of Cedar Hill, TX; four daughters, Kathi Smith and her husband Ernest of Tomaston, GA, Vickie and Richard Schneider of Sunman, Elaine Hammel of Holton, and Rebecca and Danny Filiatreau of Bardstown, KY; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers, How-ard Huntington of Ontario, CA, Pierce Huntington of Selma, Jay Huntington of New Castle, and Ed-gar Huntington of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sarah Martin.
Mr. Huntington was a veteran of WWII where he served with the Marines in the South Pacific. Near the end of the war, he was sent back to Purdue University for Officer Candidate School, but the war had ended and he returned home to farm. Mr. Huntington was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and American Legion Post 777 in Indianapolis. He was retired from Cummins where he worked as a machinist for 35 years and was a member of the diesel workers union.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be at the Hopewell Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be given by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, May 9 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Betty J. Stirn, 75, of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006. Funeral services were held Monday, May 8 at Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville.

Edward J. Richez
Edward J. Richez, 79, of Milan, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati. He was born December 30, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Joseph J. and Rose (Maloczesk) Richez. He married Julia Joan (Parish) Richez on March 5, 1965 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, James S. Bedunah of Concho, Arizona and Brad Richez of California; two daughters, Jill J. (Glyn) Moughler of Mesa, Arizona and Terry (Charles) Butler of Moores Hill; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One sister, Alice Vicklund, preceded him in death.
Mr. Richez worked as an operations manager for Motorola Corp. before retiring in 1976. He was a WWII Army veteran having served in Germany, a member of the Milan United Methodist Church, the Milan Lions Club and the Milan Park Board. He was very instrumental in getting the playground equipment installed in the Milan Park.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 1 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Revs. Stormy Scherer-Berry and Harris Long officiating. Mr. Richez’s body was donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Memorials may be made to the Ripley County Community Foundation.

Martha V. (Abplanalp) Tucker

Martha V. (Abplanalp) Tucker, 94, of Dayton, Ohio died Wednesday, May 3, 2006. She was born on April 15, 1912 in Osgood to Charles A. and Anna (Holzhause) Abplanalp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Tucker, Sr.; sister, Margaret Plath and brothers, Harold, Arthur and Ira Abplanalp. She was a wonderful mom to her son, Charles W. Tucker Jr. and wife Barb of New Lebanon, Ohio; and grandmother to Matthew Tucker and Christianne Tucker.
She was the former owner of Tucker’s Beauty Shop in Dayton for over 40 years and a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Committal services were held Monday, May 8, 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon with Gary Groth officiating.

Carole L. Hull

Carole L. Hull, 78, of Versailles, formerly of the Hopewell community, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born in the Tanglewood community near Versailles on March 30, 1928 the daughter of Harry and Grace Demaree Gortemiller. She was married to A. Wayne Hull on March 29, 1947 and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Merrill Hull and his wife Pat of Fairfield, OH, Jim Hull and his wife Carol of Waycross, GA, and Mike Hull and his wife Babs of Greenwood; two daughters, Cheryl Judge and her husband Jerry of Hanover, and Phyllis Hull of Versailles; 14 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hull was a 1946 graduate of Osgood High School. She was a homemaker and was a former employee with the Ripley County Farm Bureau and Tripletts Drugstore in Osgood. She was a member of the Osgood First Baptist Church and attended the Hopewell Baptist Church. Mrs. Hull enjoyed writing poetry and had delivered meals to many ill and shut-in neighbors for several years.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building fund in care of Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Edgar H. Allen, 85, of Milan, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Ripley Crossing at Milan. He was born July 10, 1920 in Hamilton County, OH, the son of Harris and Clara (Borgman) Allen, both deceased. He married Roena Frederick on November 27, 1941 and she survives.
Survivors also include sons and their wives Albert and Donna and Gerald and Patricia all of Chillicothe, IL; daughters and their husbands DiAnne and Michael Beemer of Lebanon, OR; Sheila and Eugene Ott of Rising Sun; Susann Lynn and Bruce Beard of Milan; Kathy and Gregory Ortlieb of Butler, KY; Joan and Jeffrey Miles of Moores Hill and Dawn and Aaron Kozlowski of Lawrenceburg; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and niece Janice Foozer of Cleves, OH.
He was preceded in death by brother Harold Allen.
Mr. Allen was a conductor for the New York Central Railroad and later retired from Con-Rail. He was a member of the Moores Hill Baptist Church and the United Transportation Union.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, May 2 from 9-11:00 a.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Funeral services will immediately follow with Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Confidence Cemetery at Georgetown, OH.

William Lemarr
William C. Lemarr, 69, of Dabney, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Hancock County, TN, on September 3, 1936 the son of Thurman and Pansy Dillman Lemarr. He was married to Mary Harris on September 8, 1961 and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother Pansy Lemarr of Osgood; three daughters, Judy Williams and her husband Gary of Osgood, Pamela White and her husband Frank of Holton, and Sherry Laswell and her husband Terry of Osgood; grandchildren, Todd, Dustin, and Brittany Williams, Heather and Hilary White, Karen, Jordan and Kasey Laswell; great-grandchildren Hunter Williams, Aidan Green, Alexis Hunger, Emily and Alyssa Youngman; one sister, Arlene Lemarr of Osgood.
He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Clyde and sister Ulene Lemarr.
Mr. Lemarr was a truck driver for Smith Implements in Greensburg and was also self-employed in lawncare.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Charles Cole of the Dabney Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dabney Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m.
