Kyle Horan is top of his class

Kyle Horan was honored as Jac-Cen-Del High School’s valedictorian for 2006. The graduate is the son of Brian and Karen Horan and plans to study Pharmacy Science at Butler University.
While in high school, Horan participated in many sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, and track. He was also a member of National Honor Society.

Throughout his academic career, Horan remembers Mr. Eugene Westerman, his math teacher, as a strong influence. “He’s so dedicated, and he made learning fun,” Horan said, “His classes were enjoyable.”

Horan looks forward to the challenge of college, but admits he will miss high school. When he looks back, the most important times to him were “spending time with my friends and playing sports.”
To guide him as he pursues his education in college, Horan takes with him some wisdom he’s learned from high school. “Be confident in yourself. If you’re going to do something, do it,” Horan said, “If you do your best, that’s the best you can do.”

Justin Foster gives salutatorian address

“Success is not a place at which one arrives but rather the spirit with which one undertakes and continues the journey,” Justin Foster said at Jac-Cen-Del’s Commencement on Saturday, May 27. The graduate, son of Laurie Foster and Tim Foutch, gave a speech at Commencement as the 2006 Salutatorian.

Foster committed to many extracurricular activities during his four years of high school. He was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish club, and the Humane Society. He also played in the Concert Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. He was on the National Honor Roll for four years.
During his high school career, Foster has looked to the example of his grandfather, Stanley Foster, to help him through all of his responsibilities. Foster said of his grandfather, “He was hardworking... and was like a father [to me].” Through his four years he’s learned “to work hard and never really give up.”
Foster is excited by the prospect of college. He plans to attend Hanover College to study Computer Science. In his speech to his graduating class, he observed, “We must take into consideration that this is not the end but the beginning of the rest of our lives.”
