Raiders register many
firsts with the 2006 baseball team
Gary Franklin - Sports
Writer
The Semi-State bound South Ripley Raider baseball team has
exposed the school to many firsts while playing this season.
They collectively went unbeaten in the ORVC conference.
Michael Fear pitched the first recorded perfect game for
the Raiders. The 2006 Raiders are the first to hold and
win both the Class 2A sectional and Regional. Thus the Raider
2006 squad is the first in the school's history to reach
the plateau of Semi-State qualifiers.
The Raiders are not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but
with only three senior mermbers on the team, next year looks
quite promising all ready. Coach Holdsworth verbally recognizes
the many attributes his seniors have brought to the table
with this years team.
The Raider train is growing with enthusiasm, jump on and
ride it with them to show your support to a well deserved
group of young men.

Walkin' on sunshine kissin' the stars
Raider Junior Cory Yeomans can't
help but skip a beat as he crosses the plate and
heads for the dugout following his home run over
the left field fence at Forest G. Waters Field to
give the Raiders a 2-1 lead in the Class 2A Regional
on June 6 against the Austin Eagles. Recently turned
blonde senior teammate Brandon Seabolt celebrates
Yeomans' demanding left field drive feeling an anticipated
victorious regional win is near at hand.

Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles
travel to Lanesville for 2006 Class IA Regional Softball
competition
Gary Franklin - Sports
Writer
The Lady Eagles spent approximately 2 hours
in transit by school bus to the Lanesville ball field near
Corydon on Saturday, June 3, to face the Hauser Lady Jets,
in their first game of the day. The Regional opener slatted
the North Dubois ladies against the tournament hosting Lanesville
Lady Eagles.
In the Eagles vs Jets match, with the Jets named the home
team, JCD won 3-0 to advance to the night game set for a
7:30pm start.
Game one - Eagles vs Jets
The Lady Eagle infield consisted of Olivia Newhart - pitcher,
Alisha Lord - catcher, Janelle Hardesty - 1st base, Tiffany
Downey - 2nd base, Abby Lauber - 3rd base, and Kiersten
Young at short stop.
Coach Brian Samples noted:
"The Lady Eagles played a nearly perfect game with
only one error on a hard hit ball. Senior pitcher Newhart
had only given up 1 run in 3 straight post season games.
Alisha Lord played through the heat with her knee infection
that had sidelined her for the sectional. Abby Lauber scored
2 of the 3 Lady Eagle runs on pure hustle and played a great
third base. Talena Huff drove in 2 of the 3 runs on balls
hit to the right side with runners on 3rd. This was the
first Regional win in softball for Jac-Cen-Del."
Eagle pitching vs Jets.
Newhart chalked up the 7 inning 'W' after facing 29 batters,
allowing 4 hits, no runs, 3 walks, and 1 strike out.
