Batesville man killed in one vehicle accident

Gregory David Peters, 42, of Batesville died after he sustained massive head trauma in an accident that occurred around 4:41 a.m. Saturday morning, June 17.

According to information from the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Peters was a passenger in a vehicle driven by John D. Elkins, 38, of Lexington, KY, when the driver lost control causing the vehicle to leave the roadway on East SR 46, just west of SR 101 in Penntown.

Elkins and Peters were both flown via PHI Dove Flight to the University of Cincinnati Hospital after being extricated from the badly damaged vehicle, according to the police report. Elkins was treated for a broken arm and was later released from the hospital.

A back seat passenger, Christina L. Brown, 33, of Greensburg, was treated and released at the scene.
Sgt. Marvin Smith of the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department is the investigating officer. He was assisted at the scene by emergency personnel that included Rescue 20, Ripley County Paramedic and Sunman Fire Department.
