JCD to offer full day kindergarten

Full day kindergarten will be offered at Jac-Cen-Del. The recommendation from Superintendent Bill Narwold was approved unanimously by the Jac-Cen-Del School Board at their June meeting.

It will be offered tuition free. Jac-Cen-Del will apply for full day grant funding. A meeting for parents of kindergarten students will be held on July 12 at 6:00 p.m. Letters will be mailed to the parents of the kindergarten students who have pre-enrolled.

Leanna Phillippe will be the new Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School principal. Phillippe comes to Jac-Cen-Del from the Jennings County School Corporation where she was an elementary school principal. She was also principal at the Sunman Elementary School from 1997-2002. Phillippe graduated from Milan High School in 1977 and received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State in 1986 where she also completed her undergraduate degree.

Jessica Steele resigned as Spanish teacher. Kelly Sprague will replace her. An additional kindergarten position will be established. Summer school teachers were approved.

Several recognitions were given. The Jac-Cen-Del baseball and softball teams are Sectional Champs. Valorie Wagner competed in the state track meet. Andrew Wagner qualified for the boy’s golf regional. Talena Huff competed in a national competition.

It was reported the Indiana Virtual Academy has more than 1,000 students enrolled in summer classes including 45 Jac-Cen-Del students. A secretarial position is being posted for the elementary school.

All five members of the board were present: Kathleen Dickman, Deanna Young, Charles Hughes, Paul Hardy and John Billman. The next regular meeting of the Jac-Cen-Del Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jac-Cen-Del Elementary Library.
