Letters sent to residents
Efforts underway to clean up Osgood
Cathy May - Contributing Writer

The town of Osgood continues to work on clean up. Of the 14 letters sent to those who had yards that needed mowing, junk or trash sitting around, 12 have complied. One homeowner on Cardinal Lane (Todd Norman) will be taken to court. He did mow his property and did some clean up, but not everything that needed done. The town council noted that a property owner on Leslie Street will continue to work to get their property back into shape.

Jerry Burton attended the June 20 Osgood Town Board meeting and compliments the town stating they have made good strides. He asked if Poplar Street (east) has ever been vacated. Town Attorney Mary Ann Gay said it has not. Burton is complaining about a pile of dirt at the entrance to Poplar Street that belongs to his neighbor. The neighbor had been given permission from the town to place the dirt there in order to fill in holes around his blacktop.
Deputy Danny Hamilton reported ten junk car letters had been delivered. Eight of the cars have been moved and two started up and were moved off the properties.

Annexation letters had been sent to everyone on Shook Street and Paul Morris, owner of the Fairview Village Trailer Park. Everyone on Shook Street has signed the annexation papers except for Dennis and Angie Gaither and Paul Morris has not signed for half of the trailer court. Another letter will be sent and garbage pickup will cease on July 1 for those who have not signed.

Kyle Negangard offered to exchange three-fourths of an acre for two water taps and three sewer taps on the property he owns on State Road 350. This issue was tabled until further review.

The Indiana Department of Rural Affairs turned down the Water Project on State Road 350 again. Council feels they should reapply.

Street Superintendent Steve Wilhoit reported on the Hazen Storm Water Project. There is 60' of the 18" pipe left to run. Wilhoit would like to see Railroad Avenue resurfaced all the way out to Buckeye Street. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation Grant Agreement for the Hazen Storm Water Project was signed in the amount of $70,000. Hazen Storm Water claims were approved: National Waterworks $26,856.37; ABC Cutting $350.00; Holman Ready Mix $920.00; Hanson Aggregates $4,132.34; and Flint Stone Haulers $6,657.33.

David Mohler of Commonwealth Engineers presented the claim for the second pay estimate for the North Walnut Street Sidewalk Project for Johannigman Excavating in the amount of $29,005.85. There is an issue with a fire hydrant on the corner of Walnut and Western. That hydrant is in the way of the new curb. There is no valve to shut the hydrant down. To shut the water off, the water for the entire south side of the town would have to be shut down. Johannigman Excavating estimated it would take $4,000 to install a new valve. The board decided to have a new valve installed.

All three town board members were present: Jeff Volz, Paul Struckman and Linda Krinop. Clerk-Treasurer Tammy Wilhoit was present to advise the board. The next regular meeting of the Osgood Town Board will be July 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Osgood Town H
