If you are interested in hearing
all about how the plans are coming along for the Osgood Museum,
heres your chance. There will be a meeting on July 20
at 7:00 p.m. for all interested persons to attend.
The idea of having a museum in Osgood started in 2003 with several
public meetings. There seemed to be an interest and a small
board of directors was established to get things started. The
board consists of Bill Gloyd, president; Helen Caplinger, vice-president;
Doug Thayer, treasurer; Sandra Gloyd, secretary and Anne French,
member.
The museum will at 128 S. Buckeye Street, where Gilmore and
Golda Reynolds once had a candy and tobacco distributorship.
The last business located in the building was Hoosier Auto Parts.
The building is currently owned by the Reynolds Foundation.
A lot of work has been done to the inside of the building to
get it ready to be used as a museum. First, the inside was totally
gutted. There are new walls, all new drywall and the old ceiling
was removed and a new tin ceiling installed.
There is one large room 40' x 90' and two smaller rooms 25'
x 20'. One of the smaller rooms will look like the inside of
an old train station.
According to Bill Gloyd, president of the board, the exhibits
in the museum will be limited to Osgood and its history. It
will be an educational tool for those to come.
Several items have already been donated: a plank off the old
plank road; a lot of history about Osgood High School; old pictures
and artifacts. Fifteen oak lighted display cases have been purchased.
Those who attend the informational meeting on July 20 will get
to see the museum and hear about the plans since the meeting
will be held at the museum.
It is planned for the museum to be opened during the Osgood
2006 celebration. For more information, contact Bill Gloyd at
689-4360.
