New ordinances passed at meeting
Sunman to be lead agency for sewer district

After being turned down by the Ripley County Commissioners and the Ripley County Council for the sewer district petition, Roger Lang asked the Sunman Town Council to be the lead agency. The district has received $35,000 grant money from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation to get the feasibility study done and the petition is the hold up. Council agreed to be the lead agency.

Franks Industries is getting an additional $200,000 in new equipment. This was not mentioned last month when they originally asked for the abatement. Town Attorney Jack Kellerman suggested they submit an amended form.

Three ordinances were passed: an Ordinance Establishing Standards for and Regulations of Unsafe Buildings, a Sewer Rate Ordinance and a Water Rate Ordinance.

LifeTime Resources will be placed in the 2007 budget for $1,100. Family Connections will be placed in the 2007 budget in the amount of $400. The 2007 Interlocal Agreement with the Ripley County Economic Development Corporation was signed.

The Beautification Committee asked if additional wording could be placed on the new “Welcome” signs at a cost of $1,485. Council denied the request and suggested taller plants instead.

Utility Superintendent Carl Bruns reported Wingham Paving quoted $1,800 to grind down and repave a section of Fitch Avenue. Council felt it was a fair price. Sidewalk ramps are nearly finished. Fire hydrants are in the process of being painted.

There was much debate over the ditch at Raintree. Bruns is not pleased that it still stays wet and portions cannot be mowed. Council feels the engineer should come back and take a look. In the meantime, Sunman employees will weed-eat the grass.

Marshal Dan Craig gave his monthly report. Craig also stated he has put in for a police car from the City of Lawrenceburg.

Several citizens complained about the speed of traffic all over town and some rundown properties. There were also complaints about the activities at an apartment building. Marshal Craig will look into the complaints.

All three board members attended the meeting: Wayne Jenner, John Campbell and Mike Wolffe. Also, present to advise the board were town Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer Kris Schneider. The next regular meeting of the Sunman Town Board will be August 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunman Town Hall.
