Carlos Dieckmann received the distinct honor of being named District Governor at a Banner Night event of the Milan Lions Club last Saturday.

The Milan Lions Club member has accepted the honor and will serve for the next year in the capacity of District Governor, covering 70 clubs that stretch from Indianapolis to New Albany and southeastern Indiana.

According to Gene Pitts, president of the Milan club, Dieckmann’s duties include promotion and organization of projects at state and national levels along with a higher level of determining how funds are spent.

The Lions are known for many service projects with the most prominent one being their vision project. Programs they support include the Seeing Eye Dog, Eye Bank, and screening services offered free of charge to those needing an eye screening.

“We are privileged to have one of our members as District Governor,” noted Pitts, who said in his 18 years as a member of the Lions Club he doesn’t remember anyone from Milan ever holding this position.

Dieckmann said he was honored to be named District Governor, but didn’t dwell on that long. He began to talk about how proud he is to be a member of the Milan Lions Club and serve the community through various projects the club promotes. Through their service projects, the Lions help a number of people.

The event, cited as a Banner Night, meant just that. A banner was received from the Connersville Lions Club as the title of District Governor came to Milan’s club. The evening was well attended with over 140 members and family enjoying a meal catered by the Three Sisters Catering Service. A committee comprised of Lions Daren Baker, Jane Foley, Jerry Smith and Shirley Bocock, organized the evening complete with yellow colored punch, a Lions trademark color.

The event was held at the Milan High School with members of the Connersville Lions Club saying how impressed they were with the school facilities. Entertainment was given by Pastor Tim Norris and Pastor Marcus Felde, who presented the crowd with a number of musical selections.

Lion Dieckmann thanked the crowd and said, “Our sincere thanks goes out to the members of the Milan Lions Club...without these steadfast partners our efforts would lack meaning and a deep-rooted foundation as Lions.” He concluded by saying he would serve the Lions of District 25F to the best of his ability.
