Ella "Dopey" West
Ella "Dopey" West, 77 of Friendship passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Olean on September 15, 1928 the daughter of William and Lucy Lomatsch Otte. She was married to Raymond West on September 20, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 5, 2002.
Survivors include one son Doug West and his wife Regina of Versailles; one daughter Joan Rohrig and her husband Carroll of Milan; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Werner of Greenfield and Dorothy Huntington and her husband Larry of Friendship.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. West was a 1947 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Olean where she also had taught Sunday School. She enjoyed her family and traveling.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Marcus Felde officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles, and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Friendship Fire Department, or the donor’s choice.

Henry R. Shelp
Henry R. Shelp, 84, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born in Ripley County on December 10, 1921, the son of Henry F. and Nettie Downey Shelp, both deceased. He married Florence Rose Bruner on December 14, 1946 and she survives.
Survivors also include son Larry A. and wife Evelyn Shelp of Brown County; daughter Cheryl Ann Shelp of Greensburg; daughter-in-law Sylvia Theisen of Denver, CO; brother Raymond A. Shelp of Indianapolis; sisters Ruth Allen of Indianapolis and Naomi Scranton of Greendale; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Gary R. Shelp; brother Harold W. Shelp; sisters Beatrice Preble, Oneada Asche, Miriam Ross and Leone Yelton.
Mr. Shelp was a graduate of New Marion High School in Ripley County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific in Guadalcanal. He was a retired 32-year employee of Bohn Aluminum & Brass. Mr. Shelp was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post 129.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 22, from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Crowley officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery in Ripley County with military rites performed by the Versailles American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Dorothy Harriett Smith Reuter
Dorothy Harriett Smith Reuter, 85, of Dearborn Heights, MI, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006.
Survivors include husband of 57 years, Floyd W. Reuter, originally of Milan; three daughters, Linda Davis and hus-band John of Winnetka, IL; Cheryl Ashcroft and husband Ronald of Romulus, MI; and Barbara Greenwood and hus-band Brian of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Katherine, Maureen and Alexander Davis; Lauren and Nicholas Ashcroft; and Daniel, John, Heather and Andrew Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by brother Ronald Smith. Survivors include sons Dennis of Milan and Rick and wife Rose of Osgood; daughters Patricia and husband Phil Ritchie of Blue Bell, PA and Sandra and husband Paul Kennedy of Evanston, IN; sisters Audrey Hertz and Doris Zapp both of Madison; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reuter was born to Ernest and Naomi Smith of Honeycreek Township. She earned BS and MS degrees from Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University). She was a high school English and Social Studies teacher at Honey Creek High School, Reelsville High School, and then Riverside High School in Dearborn Heights, MI, for 15 years. A member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church (now Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church), southeast of Terre Haute, through young adulthood, she was later a long-time active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Dearborn, MI. She was a prize-winning photographer, author, and avid traveler.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan. Rev. Stormy Sherer-Berry will preside.

Maxine Liming
Maxine Liming, 90, of Ver-sailles, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at her residence. She was born at Brookville on February 21, 1916 the daughter of Emmett and Louella Freeland Logan. She was married to Alfred (Newt) Liming on January 31, 1942 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1980.
Survivors include one son John Liming and his wife Deb-bie of Versailles; grandsons Brian Liming and his wife Sandy, Greg Liming and his wife Crystal all of Dillsboro, and Jason Liming and his wife Sara of Holton; seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Liming was a 1934 graduate of Springfield High School in Franklin County and graduated from Miami Univer-sity in 1939. She taught school in Middletown, Ohio and did substitute teaching in Versailles. She, along with her husband, operated Liming’s Tree Farm in Ripley County, which in 1982 provided the Christmas tree for the governor’s mansion in Indi-anapolis. Mrs. Liming was a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church and the Delta Rho Chapter of Tri Kappa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. James Byerly of the Tyson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Brookville. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Tyson United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Robert C. Sembach
Robert "Bob" Sembach, 76, formerly of Osgood, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006.

Barbara Louise Hyatt
Barbara Louise Hyatt, 80, of Versailles, passed away Tues-day, November 14, 2006 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born at Danville, Indiana on June 24, 1926 the daughter of Harold and Margaret Baird Noland. She was married to Richard Hyatt on October 18, 1952 and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2003.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Cutter and her husband Gary of Bloomington, IL, Patty Clark and her husband Pat of Ft. Myers, Fl, and Barbara Brandum and her husband Bill of Hanover; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hyatt was retired from Reliance Electric in Madison and she and her husband oper-ated an antique shop at their home for several years. She en-joyed flower gardening, an-tiques, and her dogs. She loved her family very much. Barbara is now home with her Lord and will be missed by all who knew her here. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Madison.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Joel Almaroad of the Grace Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Grace Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Robert W. Hopper
Robert W. Hopper, 73, of Madison, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY. He was born January 2, 1933 in Ripley County, the son of John and Mildred (Stevenson) Hopper, both deceased. He married Nancy Redburn of Madison and she survives.
Survivors also include daughter Paula C. Hopper of Lexington; son Tim Hopper of Huntingburg; sisters Mary Scott, Betty Miller and Barbara Hopper all of Madison; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Nelda C. Chandler and infant brother Glenn Robert Hopper.
Mr. Hopper was a 1950 graduate of Central High School. He was a retired engi-neer and had worked at the for-mer Conn Organ Company in Madison, Kimball Electronics, American Stainless Steel and Bailey Manufacturing.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel.
Memorials may be given to the Jefferson County Humane Society or donor’s choice.
