Deadline
to register to vote is Oct. 10
Wanda English Burnett - Editor
Those wanting to vote in the fall
election have to be registered to vote by Tuesday, October 10,
according to information from the Ripley County Clerk, Ginger
Bradford.
Anyone who is not registered, may do so in person by the close
of business on the 10th at the clerks office located on
the second floor of the courthouse in Versailles. They may also
register at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branch.
If youre not sure what your status is, you can check it
by going online at www.IndianaVoters.com. A statewide voter file
system that links all 92 counties together makes it possible for
anyone to check their status.
Bradford noted that absentee voting will be available from October
19 through November 6. You must vote in person at the county clerks
office by noon on November 6.
Voting by mail is possible by requesting an absentee application
form. If you are a senior at least 65 years old, expect to be
absent from the county on Election Day, which is November 7, have
a physical disability or work obligation, you can vote by absentee
ballot.
You can apply for an absentee ballot by completing an absentee
form, (in the clerks office), sign and date your request.
Then mail it back to the clerks office and they will mail
you a ballot. Bradford noted that voters should mark their ballots
as soon as possible and return it to her office.
A Traveling Board will be available from October 26 through November
6, with noon being the deadline that day. This board will come
to you if you meet the following criteria: you are confined due
to an illness or injury, are caring for a confined person at a
private residence on Election Day, if you are a voter with disabilities
and believe your polling place is not accessible to you.
The clerks office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00
a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. They will also have Saturday
hours on October 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on November
4 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For more information you can call the clerks office at 689-4783
or 689-6115.
