Napoleon to be part of library district

The first meeting of 2007 saw the Napoleon Town Board elect Tim Brancamp again as president of the board.

Andrea Ingmire, Director of the Osgood Public Library, was present to tell the board about the services the library provides. Ingmire said even though Jackson Township is not presently in the library district, Jac-Cen-Del students are provided free library cards. Out of district cards are presently $27 a year, a fee which is set by the state.

The board will provide a letter of support regarding Jackson Township being a part of the library district. Attorney Larry Eaton said, “When people are looking to move into an area, one of the things they look at are library services. With Honda coming, we need to be ready.”

The board re-appointed Marianne Wiggers to the Rising Sun Regional Planning Board.

A flag pole will be purchased from Keith Abbott, Inc. and will be placed near the new sign in front of the Napoleon Senior Center. Electric will be run to the site for both the flag and the sign. Cecil Myers donated an American flag.

There was again discussion regarding overdue utility bills. The ordinance will be changed to have the owner of the property responsible for the gas bills and the bills will be sent to the owner.

The town is working on an agreement with the town of Osgood to be responsible for the gas utilities once Rod Eaton retires. This would preclude the town from having to hire an employee. Negotiations are ongoing.

Two of three town board members, Tim Brancamp and Bill Vankirk, were present. Town Attorney Larry Eaton and Clerk Treasurer Karen Rohlfing were also present to advise the board.

The next regular meeting of the Napoleon Town Board is scheduled for February 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Napoleon Senior Center.
