Milan Indian
swim teams compete at Lawrenceburg High School

The Indians traveled to Lawrenceburg to compete against the
Batesville Bulldogs and the hosting Lawrenceburg Tigers on
Thursday evening, January 10.
The event opened with Lawrenceburg divers competing as they
were the only team to have divers.
Swimming events began with the Womens 200 Yard Medley Relay.
Swimming it for the Milan Indian swim team were Elizabeth
Smith, Danielle Schaefer, Jasmine Vetma-Hollins and Shelby
Zornes, who captured a second place finish with a time of
2:10.51. Batesville was first at 2:08.47.
Milan swimmers in the 200 Yard Medley Relay were Heath Weston,
Nick Dixon, TJ Shannon and Tyler Mills. They also finished
second behind Batesville. The Indians race time was 2:03.85.
Lady Indian swimmer Elizabeth Smith won the Womens 200 Yard
Free competition in a time of 2:11.23, while teammate Jasmine
Vetma-Hollins captured fourth of the six swimmer race with
a time of 2:30.08.
Nick Dixon of Milan finished third in the Mens 200 Yard Free
in a time of 2:44.63.
Lady Indian swimmer Shelby Zornes finished second in the Womens
200 Yard IM in 2:40.80 behind Lawrenceburg 's Nicole Lewis'
2:37.31.
Heath Weston beat the two Batesville contenders in the Mens
200 Yard IM, winning with a time of 2:25.00.
Chelsea Lee finished fourth for the Lady Indians in the Womens
50 Yard Free. Her time was :32.37.
Indian swimmer TJ Shannon took fourth in :26.28 in the Mens
50 Yard Free, while teammate Jason Day swam to a fifth place
finish at :30.66.
Tyler Mills of Milan took second place in the Mens 100 Yard
Fly in 1:08.99 behind Batesville's Scott Gryspeerdt's 1:08.76.
Lady Indian swimmer Elizabeth Smith left the competition in
the waves with her first place finish in the Womens 100 Yard
Free. Smith completed her race in :58.61. Teammates Emily
Jones finished sixth in 1:15.67 and Maria Thompson's time
was 1:22.38.
Heath Weston of the Indians swam the Mens 100 Yard Free to
a fourth place finish in 1:00.36, followed by teammates TJ
Shannons finish for fifth in 1:08.80 and Jason Days time of
1:09.22.
Shelby Zornes of the Lady Indians left the pool steaming,
with her first place finish in the Womens 500 Yard Free with
a time of 6:12.39. Lady Indian Jasmine Vetma-Hollins finished
third in 7:03.36.
Lady Indian swimmers Emily Jones, Maria Thompson, Kaliegh
Gardner and Chelsea Lee finished the Womens 200 Yard Free
Relay in 2:18.85 for a third place finish.
Lady Indians Chelsea Lee in a time of 1:36.46 took fourth
as teammate Emily Jones was D'Qed in the Womens 100 Yard Back
event.
Tyler Mills brought home a second place finish for the tribe
with a swim of 1:08.83 behind Batesville's Tyler Guidry's
1:05,95 in the Mens 100 Yard Back event.
Milan finished fourth and fifth in the Womens 100 Yard Breast
event as Danielle Schaefer swam it in 1:25.57, followed by
Kaliegh Gardner at 1:29.34.
Nick Dixon of the Indians finished third in 1:23.53 in the
Mens 100 Yard Breast event.
The Lady Indians again shined in the Womens 400 Yard Free
Relay as Shelby Zornes, Jasmine Vetma-Hollins, Danielle Schaefer
and Elizabeth Smith parted the waters for a first place finish
in 4:23.11. A second Lady Indian team consisting of Kaliegh
Gardner, Maria Thompson, Emily Jones and Chelsea Lee, finished
the 400 in 5:24.20 earning a fourth place spot of the six
teams competing.
The event finale was the Mens 400 Yard Free Relay, where the
Milan team of Tyler Mills, Nick Dixon, TJ Shannon and Heath
Weston completed the event for a third place finish in 4:30.19.
Final scoring for the girls' events placed the Batesville
Lady Bulldogs in first place with 130 points, Milan Lady Indians
in second place with 83 points and the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers
third with 74 points.
Final count of the boys' portion of the event found Batesville
Bulldogs also capturing the first place spot with 160 points,
Milan Indian boys team in second with 53 points and the Lawrenceburg
Tiger boys' team third with 21 points.
