JCD Lady Eagle Coach Scott Smith is honored for 100th coaching career victory

Between the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle JV and varsity basketball game's, played against the Greensburg Lady Pirates on Tuesday, January 29, at JCD, Varsity Lady Eagle Coach Scott Smith was awarded the game ball from the SC game, along with a photo memory display which included both the team picture of his first varsity team of 2001-2002 and his varsity team of today, in honor of his acquiring a 100th coaching career victory.
The milestone was reached when he and the Lady Eagles won their 15th straight game this season with a defeat of the Switzerland County Lady Pacers 46-43.
Smith has been coaching at one level or another through much of his life since graduating as a star basketball player for the JCD Eagles himself. Smith is a 1983 graduate of JCD and Northern Kentucky University. He is in his 12th year of coaching at JCD and the 7th as the girls varsity coach. He and his teams have won 4 Sectionals, 2 Conference Championships and 1 County Championships in his first six years. Smith has coached 8th grade boys basketball, girl's JV basketball, as well as serving as boy's golf coach. Smith and his wife Vickie have two children, Heather (Huff) a former player and NKU Grad, and Trent, a 7th grader at JCD.
Smith began coaching in 1996 as the Lady Eagle JV coach. In 2000, he took over the boy's 8th grade team, handling them for two years, before moving to the Lady Eagle varsity head coach position at the beginning of the 2001-2002 season.
During his first year as Lady Eagle Varsity Coach, he led the Lady Eagle varsity team to a 13-10 season, taking both the Ripley County girl's tournament and the sectional. Smith's total winning perentage at the time this data was collected stood at .656.
Members of that first varsity team included student manager Joe Andrews, Alyssa Habart, Ashley Lord, Abbie White, Crystal Bonta, Heather Smith, Cassidy Krieg, Courtney Vollmer, student manager Craig Meister, Principal Ray Ratledge, Michelle Williams, Trisha Huff, Amber Forkert, Ashley Payne, Bridgette Vankirk, Lindsay Horan, Assistant Coach Tara Ward, Athletic Director Matt Stone and Team Trainer Michelle Sebastian. In opening his career as varsity coach, Smith's first victory came at the expense of the Rising Sun Lady Shiners, the 100th at the expense of the Switzerland County Lady Pacers.
