Jennifer Lee Ann "Jen"
Kappes
Jennifer Lee Ann "Jen" Kappes, 31, of Bennington,
passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at her resi-dence.
She was born on No-vember 20, 1976 in Colum-bus, the daughter
of Francis A. Kappes and Sheila M. Price Dickerson. She had
been in ill health the past eight years of her life.
Survivors include: father and stepmother, Francis "Frank"
and Debbie Kappes of Bennington; mother, Sheila Price Dickerson
of Franklin; one son, Trenton Whitham of Bennington; one brother,
David Kappes of Franklin; one stepsister, Casie Hankins and
husband Billy of Bennington; niece and nephew: Madison and
Timothy; step nieces: Rylee and Nora; and many aunts, uncles
and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray-mond and
Ethel Kappes; Molean and John Wright; and Hilbert and Delores
Cole.
Ms. Kappes was a 1995 graduate of Switzerland County High
School. She enjoyed being a member of the Honor Society, the
Key Club and the Ski Team in school. She was a member of the
Switzerland County 4-H program and enjoyed showing animals
at the fair. She was a faithful member of the Sorrowful Mother
of God Catholic Church in Vevay.
Ms. Kappes was employed by Tot R Us Day Care in Vevay. She
began working for Grand Victoria Resort & Casino in 1996,
as a food and beverage secretary. She enjoyed music, reading,
collecting frogs and time with her son.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, January 29,
at 11 a.m. at Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church
in Vevay. Rev. John A. Meyer will be officiating. Burial will
be in the Vevay Cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory
of Jennifer to the Trenton Whitham Education Fund, contribution
cards are avail-able at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home
in Vevay. Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home is in charge
of ar-rangements.
Joan Abplanalp Dunaway
Joan Abplanalp Dunaway, 74, of New Whiteland, died Sunday,
January 27, 2008 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
She was born July 22, 1933 in Osgood the daughter of Frank
and Luella Arthur Abplanalp, both deceased. She married Roy
Allen Dunaway on August 3, 1957 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Donna Borer of Greenwood;
three sisters, Helen Grigsby of Osgood, Jackie Peters of Greensburg,
Cathy Eckler of Milan; one brother, Johnny Abplanalp of New
Whiteland; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by two brothers, Elvin and Howard Abplanalp and one sister,
Patty Horton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 30 from 5-8 p.m.
at Neals Funeral Home in Osgood.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31 at 11 a.m.
at Neals Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials
may go to the donors choice.
Teresa L. Adams Hutter
Teresa L. Adams Hutter, 56, of Madison, formerly of Holton,
died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Kings Daughters
Hospital, Madison. She was born December 12, 1951 in Batesville,
the daughter of Grover and Betty Stopher Adams and they preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her companion Kenny Wood of Holton, two
sons, Roger Neal Adams of Osgood and Robert Charles Hutter
of Versailles; one brother, Jerry Adams of Madison and grandchildren,
Courtney Dawn and Zachary Austin Hutter.
Mrs. Hutter worked as a bartender at the Sunny Side Bar in
Aurora for several years. She later worked at Versailles Plastics
for several years. She also helped with the Friendship Muzzleloaders
Association.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, February 1,
10:30 a.m. at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials
may be made to the donors choice.

of the arrangements.
Hayden James Turner
Hayden James Turner, infant son of Leon and April Franks Turner,
Jr. of North Vernon was stillborn on Sunday, January 27, 2008.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January
29 at Vernon Cemetery with the Rev. W. Sherman Beville officiating.
Arrangements were made by Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral
Home in North Vernon.

Wanda Lee Goddard
Wanda Lee Goddard, 51, of Versailles, passed away on Thursday,
January 17, 2008 at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood.
She was born on July 24, 1956 in Lawrenceburg, the daughter
of Denver and Mary L. Boggs Courter, both deceased. She married
Gary Eugene Goddard on January 27, 1974 and he survives.
Other survivors include four sons: Robert Goddard of Batesville,
Eric and Michael Goddard, both of Osgood, and Jason Goddard
of Holton; two daughters: Jenny Arthur and Tammy Osbourne,
both of Versailles; three brothers: Wm. Courter of Aurora,
Paul Courter of Osgood and Jeff Courter of Versailles; and
14 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Denver and Thomas Courter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, January
23 at Westfork Baptist Church in Madison with funeral services
following at noon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Marian C. Mitchell
Marian C. Mitchell, 86, of Milan, passed away on Saturday,
January 19, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.
She was born on September 28, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the
daughter of Oscar Nicholas and Marie C. (Nealon) Kuhn.
Survivors include two sons: Thomas H. (Susan) Mitchell of
Sunman and Mike (Teresa) Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH; nine
grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by one son, Robert Mitchell.
Ms. Mitchell was a former employee of Makino and Crosley Companies
in Cincinnati. She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic
Church in Milan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January
24 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with
Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the St.
Marys Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Visitation will
be from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Charles Church. Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan is in charge of arrangements.
John Glen "Jack" Hayden
John Glen "Jack" Hayden, 75, of North Vernon, passed
away on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Graveside services will
be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22 at Butlerville Cemetery.
Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon is in

South Central Indiana or Hospice of Jennings County in care

Evelyn Luhring
Evelyn Luhring, 89, of Maplewood, MN, passed away on Sunday,
January 20, 2008. Visitation will be held on Saturday from
10-11:30 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with graveside
services following on Saturday at the St. John Church Cemetery
in Penntown. Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville is in charge
of arrangements.
Donald W. Land
Donald W. Land, 85, of Sunman, died Thursday, January 17,
2008 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1922 in Switzerland
County the son of Clarence Land and Lula B. (Dudgeon) Land-Gray,
both deceased. He married Margaret and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Caroline Bohlke and
Mary Ann Wright, both of Milan, Donna Land of Sunman, seven
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by one son, Clifford W. Land, one sister, Mary Ann
Land, and one brother, Albert Land.
Mr. Land was a member of the Milan VFW Post #2634, the Sunman
and Milan American Legion Posts and the Eagles Club #2022
of Aurora. He was an Army veteran of WWII and a recipient
of a Purple Heart. He retired from Interlake Steel.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 21 at Cook Funeral
Home in Sunman. Burial was in the St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman
with military graveside honors. Memorials may go to any veterans
service organization.
Roy Struckman
Roy Struckman, 95, of Milan, passed away on Sunday, January
20, 2008 at his residence. He was born on February 21, 1912
in Milan, the son of Lewis and Martha Lingo Struckman. He
married Virginia Dennis on June 13, 1945 and she survives.
Other survivors include four sons: Cletus (Marilyn Struckman
and LeRoy Struckman, both of Milan, Paul (Wilma) Struckman
and Clifford Struckman, both of Osgood; one daughter: Susie
(Kermit) Johnson of Milan; two sisters: Esther Green of North
Vernon and Kate Fisher of Aurora; 17 grandchildren; 40 great
grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Mr. Struckman was a retired farmer and heavy machine operator.
He was also a World War II Army Veteran.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 11
a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Harris Long and
Charlie Steele officiating. Burial will be in the German Lutheran
Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 23
from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given
to the German Lutheran Cemtery. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home
in Milan is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred A. Holwadel
Mildred A. Holwadel, 94, of Milan, passed away
on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Northridge Medical Center
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She was born on June 12, 1913
in Milan, the daughter of Earl and Mabel Wood Peters. She
married Stanley C. Holwadel on November 13, 1937 and he preceded
her in death on October 1, 1983.
Survivors include two sons: Paul E. and David L. Holwadel,
both of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and two grandsons: Bill and
Rusty Holwadel, both of Atlanta, Georgia.
Mrs. Holwadel was a homemaker and a member of the St. Paul
Lutheran Church at Stumpkes Corner.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 16 at
11 a.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with
Rev. Richard Mackey officiating. Burial will be in the St.
Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan. Visitation will be
from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials
may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan is in charge of arrangements.

Frances E. Huber, 76, of Sunman, passed away of Saturday,
January 12, 2008. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday,
at 11 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman. Burial will be
in the St. John Cemetery in Penntown. Memorials may be given

Martin B. Kleine, 89, of Oldenburg, passed away on Saturday,
January 12, 2008. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday,

Edna A. Laker, 87, of St. Marys, passed away on Saturday,

Maurica Lea Pyles "Marcy"
Hammons
Maurica Lea Pyles "Marcy" Hammons,
58, of Osgood, formerly of Madison, passed away on Sunday,
January 6, 2008 at her residence. She was born on December
28, 1949 at Trimble County, Kentucky, the daughter of Maurice
and Pauline Sharp Pyles. She married Larry Hammons, of Osgood,
and he survives.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Gina Braley of Madison;
one son, Andy Hammons of Madison; three sisters, Sue Pyles
Bladen, Jean Pyles Robak and Edith Pyles Colwell, all of Madison;
four grandchildren, Kendra Braley, Kyla and Allison Hammons
and Parker Knox; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ethel
Pyles Steelman and Judy Pyles Colwell and Grace Pyles; her
brothers, Donald, Roy, Myron Everett and Raymond Pyles.
Mrs. Hammons was raised in Rising Sun and attended school
there. She was owner and operator of Versailles Plastics for
the past 15 years and had worked in the plastic industry for
the past 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafts,
reading and her basset hound "Bo".
Funeral services will not be held, as were Marcys wishes.
Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison.
There will be no public visitation. Memorials may be given
in memory of Marcy to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
Contribution cards are available at the funeral home. Morgan
& Nay Funeral Centre in Madison were in charge of arrangements.

Albert Lee Grubbs, 78, of Indianapolis, passed
away on January 5, 2008. Services are being held today, Tuesday,
January 8, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and funeral services

be in the Union Flatrock Cemetery in Osgood. Arrangements

Verda E. Blank, 91, of Batesville, passed away on Sunday,
January 6, 2008. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday,
from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.
Funeral services will follow at noon at St. Louis Church.
