Officially stopped at 20-3, JCD Lady Eagle's basketball extended season hopes end

The 2008 Lady Eagle team's season, filled with many highs, met its greatest low during the IHSAA Class 1A Sectional #60 final game, played at JCDHS last Saturday, February 9, as they were taken out of the race 54-45 to the 11-10, South Decatur Lady Cougars.
Ranked #2 in Class 1A over the largest part of the season, the Lady Eagles had proven their dominance with only two losses. The Lady Eagles avenged one of those former season losses in the opening game on opening night with a 20 point win over the Madison Shawe Lady Hilltoppers 61-41.
Their only other loss came at Southwestern Hanover at the hands of the Class 2A state ranked Lady Rebels and company on January 24, by a deficit of 15 at game's end, 51-66.
Sectional #60 - Game Two
The 10-10 South Decatur Lady Cougars advanced to the title match after their Friday night opening match against the 3-16 Oldenburg Lady Twisters with a 62-44 win.
Sectional #60 - Game Three
In their second round of sectional #60 action, the 19-2 JCD Lady Eagles defeated the Rising Sun Lady Shiners 68-54.

Eagles close seasonal deal with Indians

Meeting for the last time in the '08 boys basketball season, the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles traveled to Milan to battle the Indians on Thursday, February 7.
The JV match resulted in an Eagle victory, 51-28.
Honored at the break between the JV and varsity gaames were Milan High School senior band members, along with their parents. Also recognized were young Milan Elementary boys who have been practicing basketball under the guidance of Coach Randy Combs and the Milan High School boys team, who were introduced. Finalizing the entertainment afforded during the break were the young gymnists of Garrett's Gymnastics group with their tumbling and acrobatics.
The Eagles also claimed victory in the varsity game, 84-51.

Varsity Game Summary
The Indians controlled the opening tip, leading to senior Tyler Kirk's launching of a 3-pointer through the hoop for the lead. Eagle Gerald Hardesty answered on JCD's offensive possesion with a FG and FT combination to give the game its first tie at 3. Eagles Tim Arnett and Blake Sutton combined for FGs to take the score to 7-3. Senior Indian Jeff Werner amassed a three point play with a FG and FT to draw them to within one. Eagle Sutton nailed a pair of FT's, leading to Indian Kirk's second 3-pointer to tie the game at 9.
Eagle Sutton's response was a 3-pointer and FT for a four point play. Indian senior Josh Baker sank a FG followed by teammate Ison's connecting of 1 of 2 FT attempts, when Milan enjoyed their only lead of the contest with the second FG by Baker at 14-13.
Eagle Matt Gehl stuck a 3-pointer through the net and followed it with a FG to which Kellen Stolze connected for a 3-pointer to give JCD the lead at 21-14, ending the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Eagles opened the second quarter with Matt Gehl scoring back to back FG's. Zach Elza flushed a FG for the tribe. Eagle Sutton drained his second 3-pointer of the evening, followed by another Matt Gehl FG. Senior Craig McKittrick put his first FG in to bring the Indians to a 12 point deficit at 30-18.
Eagle Hardesty connected for 1 of 2 FT's, Indians Elza added a FG and McKittrick sank a pair of FT's. Eagle Arnett cashed in on a FG, capped by Indian senior Jeff Werner. Eagle Stolze added a FG to which Indian Baker countered. Eagle Hardesty netted a FG followed by Indian Kirk's drilling of a long range 3-pointer. Indian Chris Walker scored 1 of 2 FT attempts cutting the Eagle lead to six before Eagle senior Brandon Gehl's FG at the sounding of the halftime horn, resulting in a JCDeight point lead at 39-31.
Third Quarter
Indian Baker opened the third quarter action with a FG. Eagle Arnett answered in kind. Matt Gehl flushed the 3-pointer and Indian Werner made 1 of 2 FT tries. Eagle Sutton drilled a FG, Indian Ison responded with a FG to which Sutton added another 3-pointer .
Matt Gehl scored a FG and teammate Brandon Gehl sank a pair from the charity stripe. Indian McKittrick broke free on a fast break to lay a basket in. Following the Indian timeout, Eagles Hardesty, Matt Gehl and Stolze each added FG's to end the third quarter scoring.
Fourth Quarter
Eagles Matt Gehl and Sutton combined with FG's to open the final quarter of play. Indian McKitrick scored a FG, leading to another Milan timeout. Eagle Sutton responded with a 3-pointer. Indian Baker scored a pair of FT's, Eagle Sutton added a FG, after which, Indian Baker also added a FG.
With the Eagles up by 22 points at 67-45, Eagles Hardesty and Eric Horan put back to back baskets in. Indian Elza scored a FG to which Eagle Arnett matched. Indian Kirk made 1 of 2 FT shots, while Eagle Sutton made a pair. Indian Withers popped the net with his 3-point basket, leading to Eagle scoring by Hardesty with a FT and FG's each by Matt Gehl, Eric Horan, and Brandon Gehl. Eagle senior Aaron Harmeyer closed the deal with the making of a pair of FT's from the charity stripe, finalizing the game, JCD 84-51 Milan.
