School spring sports opening
dates draw ever nearer
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
With most schools' winter sports programs having already honored
their basketball athletes, attempts have been made to prepare
for the ever nearing spring sports of boys baseball, girls
softball, girls tennis, boys golf and coed track at both the
jr high and high school level.
With the desire there, the opportunity to actually get into
full swing has been limited. Be it by snow, flood and even
the annual school spring break.
Those who have not traveled have had to practice in gyms,
on parking lots, watch tapes and resolve to more inside weight
room training.
The earliest attempts to play during the spring break by local
jv softball teams have been forced to the back burner due
to the effects of Mother Nature. However a proposed better
forecast tends to motivate the urge to get ready as one best
can.
